I made my point. All the while stating:
I could’ve gotten something way newer
So, what was your point? 🤔

This is why I own a ‘79. I could’ve gotten something way newer, but it was a great price for a reliable machine and it’s in great condition. Easy to work on if need be and I can’t be stopped from driving it. Wish I would’ve thought about the lack of airbags, but what’s a drive without a little(lot of) danger?

I think they could use someone to vibe with, too.

I should also add the first one only lasted me three years because it was Jerry-rigged beyond any comprehension and I had already heard from my neighbor she was thinking of seeking the abandoned car, so when the transmission gave out on mine I just made her an offer and she took it. My second car is still going 15 years later, although I sold it to someone when I moved away and still see them with it when I visit.

Lots of ways. My first car was free because the owner kept getting oil leaks from the plug or filter and didn’t want to deal with selling it. Said she had tried three different oil filters and had the plug checked. Due to the big unknown problem she felt she’d have a hard time. Funny thing is when I got it home I checked it out, and someone had pierced it with a flathead screwdriver. I know that cause I took one and put it in the hole and it was a perfect fit. Horrible woman, so I’m sure she just pissed someone off.
My second car was $300 because my neighbors ex boyfriend had left his car at her place long past the limit to qualify for abandonment and she spite sold it to me. He loved that ugly car and it was souped up. I practically stole it. LOL
So it is possible, but I suppose not normal.

Yup. I’m not liking Voyager at all.

I’m assuming Boost and Jerboa are android apps. I couldn’t find those, and I tried Voyager today and I’m not feeling the set up. It’s basically the same as Mlem, but feels clunkier and isn’t as easy for me to follow. I do appreciate the reply and suggestions.
Also interesting. I’m not opposed to my voting being public, although I have noticed I’ve accidentally hit the vote button without intending to and have no idea if I’ve done it without noticing. I’ll have to audit my own votes sometime to see.
Votes = karma. Low karma can keep you from being able to post in places and can get your post/comment hidden.
Wonderful explanation! I will continue to up/down vote posts and comments as I see fit. 😊

I’ve been using Mlem on iOS and it makes it easy. I thought it was standard to see other instances. Unfortunately it also seems to have an issue with some comments, but I think I’m going to wait it out to see if they fix it. I tried a few other Lemmy apps and do not care for the look or set up.
I also want to know the answer to this, if there is one. Commenting to help it gain some traction. 🙃

I’m trying out Voyager now and so far I’m not liking it. This is purely from an aesthetics perspective. It has a lot going on and isn’t as easy to follow for me. I only just started digging through the settings, so that may change.
Can I ask what other Lemmy apps you’ve used and why you prefer Voyager?
Thanks! This helps my understanding a good deal.
I like the lack of karma. Generally I’m using the up/down vote options to express my dis/approval, just like you’ve stated they’re for. Given how different things can be across instances it seems I’ll just have to relearn how I view and interact with Lemmy over Reddit.
Aside from the much smaller user base and communities, I prefer Lemmy 100%. I’m learning to enjoy the smaller user base since it’s also lacking the huge amount of bots and trolls.
I’ve read about the disabling of voting and find it interesting. I enjoy the voting system because it gives me an easy way to interact with a post without having to comment. I usually only downvote if the post is low effort/slop, or the poster/commenter is just being a troll.
Thanks for your input.

I was worried about this. I’m an app guy. Although, I think Safari can make an app out of any webpage now, so maybe it will work out for me.

Do you use an app to access Lemmy and, if so, which one do you use? I chose Mlem due to its aesthetics matching iOS 26, but if they don’t fix this soon I’ll be switching over to another app exclusively. I’ve downloaded Voyager and Arctic to try out.

Thanks. I’ll have to play around with this on my computer later on today. Lemmy is a wonderful, albeit confusing at times, community.
I had a neighbor who used his as a workhorse. They aren’t for me, but it seems to be a well made car.
