It’s been influenced by both spanish and french cultural erasure to the point modern catalan is quite similar and readable to people who speak Spanish or French. (Though still quite a distinct language).

I think it’s also a bit of a thing where most people treat it like a binary.

They either think you have to go full on vegetarian or you eat meat.

Same as hispanic. It’s not really a “race”. So you have hispanic people who often identify as both hispanic and white, or hispanic and black, or hispanic and native american.
