Yeah it’s complicated. It might help more radical campaigns to launch but the actual tally should favor consensus candidates who I expect to be moderate. But it will be interesting to see what happens.

I figured that may not have been your intention, just wanted to voice this because I’ve seen an increasing number of politically illiterate or dishonest people arguing that polls are fabricated and should be ignored, or similar nonsense.
I actually think RCV is maybe bad for Mamdani. He has a lot of energy but is the furthest left candidate. RCV tends to favor moderates, and Cuomo is probably perceived as more moderate, rightly or wrongly.
Polls are legitimate data on the sentiments of voters. However, they are prone to various error, and when combined with the tendency of partisans to trumpet polls that favor their narrative and dismiss or ignore those that don’t, this can build a misleading view of what’s happening.
This is just one poll, so while it is interesting and suggests a tightening race, it’s probably an outlier. So I think my prior is still that Cuomo is heavily favored, but we won’t know for sure until the results are counted.
So trust the polls but understand that they are not prophecies, only one clue among many as to what is really going to happen.
I also use Reddit. My local sub can’t be replicated here, unfortunately, and it’s a very valuable resource to know what’s going on in the local community.
“‘FAKE NEWS.’ ‘The phony Witch Hunt.’ And ‘a big hoax.’ President Donald J. Trump has publicly used these phrases to describe the now-debunked allegations that he colluded with the Russians to win the 2016 presidential election,” Artau wrote in his concurring opinion. “[T]he board members vouched for the truth of reporting that had been debunked by all credible sources charged with investigating the false claim that the President colluded with the Russians to win the 2016 presidential election.”
I’m sorry, when did this happen? Which credible sources were those? RT and OAN?
Ah it’s been a while I may have misremembered the exact definition.
Caballo, yes. That’s specific to Costa Rica. I forget where I heard the goat one (cabron) but I think it was either Spain or Mexico.
In some Spanish-speaking regions, a goat is usually like a big dumb guy. And calling someone a horse is another way of saying they’re stupid.
Sure but they only want the bots they approve of. That way they can charge for the privilege of allowing someone’s preferred bots onto the platform.
I’ve thought of this years ago. Y’all are just lucky I’m not a terrorist.
Correlation is not causation though. Better and more popular candidates are naturally going to attract more donations. Especially the corrupt donations from the rich who don’t care who wins and just want to curry favor with whoever will be in power.
I’m not saying it has no effect but it’s hard to tease apart exactly how much.
It’s obviously a good thing but it took a lot of effort and there are other more important problems is all I’m saying.
I do because I’ve read the research on which it was based. It’s complicated though, you should read the paper.
Haha sure I meant across the country though, not in one place.
I would encourage you to read the actual research. It’s all documented there.
Absolutely. We are seeing some great civil resistance tactics in the anti-ICE protests right now. These are quite different from rallies where people just stand around, they are actually interfering with ICE and slowing down their abducitons. If enough people participated, they could shut them down altogether.
That said, it’s risky too. The police will retaliate with violence, which sucks if you are the recipient. But the imagery of peaceful protesters being attacked is great propaganda.
I think the research was done prior to that event. It’s a bit dated at this point.
Also, it’s a bit ambiguous how to count Hong Kong as a semi-autonomous region in China. Should you measure by percentage of Hong Kongers or percentage of Chinese? I might think the latter, since they’re subject to the force of that nation.
Similar but distinct. Much further left for one thing.
Also, the average level of tech knowledge here is off the charts. Like I feel like a caveman and in my office I’m the one people to go through for help. Never felt like that on Reddit.
Should be, but NYC has a surprisingly conservative streak. Just look at their past mayors.
