1·1 month agoAmerican Biscuits and Gravy is pretty much universally approved once they get past the appearance.
Tried it some relatives some time back. They were so confused/disgusted until they tried it. Wanted it every morning for their visit thereafter.
Every time I call them they mention missing it.

191·1 month agoIt just occurred to me that younger developers may not see the whole joke here…
For those unaware, a magnet would corrupt/destroy the contents on the floppy disk.
It’s not unlimited transfer like Backblaze. Also not as fast.
I’ve had a good experience with pCloud. One-time lifetime fee. Just set the Immich directory in its entirety as a backup folder.
3TB is a weird place to be with their pricing, though. You can buy 2 TB twice, iirc.

Technology@lemmy.world•Windows drive letters are not limited to A-ZEnglish
3·5 months agoOne (contrived) example would be to have a drive that doesn’t have any installed file system filters on it. Filters being the hooks that windows, antivirus, etc have that intercept file writes and such. Could make it much faster on windows for that use-case. I can see custom software using that drive.
Contrived? Definitely. But potentially useful. I can see it working similarly to something MS has in testing which is the file system thing that is super fast but is limited in features—can’t seem to find it atm…
Edit: Found it. Dev drive via ReFS.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What battle influenced the course of history the most?
12·7 months agoEven if Germany succeeded at Stalingrad and captured the Caucasus, there was no way Germany would have been able to maintain it. The entire campaign was doomed for failure.
The oil fields were sabotaged well in advance and weren’t able to produce notable amount for a good 6-9mo after. Allies had plans to bomb the crap out of them as well. Russia moved the majority of their industry further inland prior to the German’s arrival.
Put simply: Germany didn’t have the population or production capacity to win. It just wasn’t feasible. Could they have won “politically”? I suppose, but that’s like asking if Allied leadership would have sued for peace, which based on the personalities is pretty damn unlikely.

politics @lemmy.world•JUST IN: James Comey, Letitia James to Be Indicted in the Coming Days, Per Reports
1·7 months agoFor those in the legal profession, failing to get a single grand jury indictment is a serious embarrassment.
Embarrassing enough that in the past it nearly always resulted in them being fired/resigning.
Six failures to indict is unbelievably unheard of. It shows so much incompetence that it’s hard to comprehend.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What’s one thing you wish more people noticed in everyday life?
2·8 months ago…now violence and breeches of social contracts…
The latter? Yes. The former, most definitely not. Violence by all measures is at an all-time low, at least since the 1920s.

politics @lemmy.world•AMA and other medical associations are kicked out of CDC vaccine workgroups
71·9 months agoI don’t have as many opportunities to do what you suggest—never mind that I wouldn’t wish harm on people. I’ve convinced many off the MAGA ledge, but I’m not exactly in a position to travel places since I have to take care of my son since his tumor was on his spinal cord and a chunk had to get removed.
I’ll be frank, though, you’re certainly entitled to your opinion, but you’re wrong. Commit violent acts and they’ll go further into their MAGA hole and be more justified. But yes, I’ve contributed by making my local gov go from red to blue through active participation and knocking on doors—probably way more than you would do.

politics @lemmy.world•AMA and other medical associations are kicked out of CDC vaccine workgroups
17·9 months agoI get the sentiment, I really do. But it’s not fair to those that actively tried (and are trying) to get rid of Trump. Personally, I’m trying my best, but there isn’t much I can do on a national scale while trying to keep my family’s head above water.
My son thankfully is no longer getting chemo treatments so he isn’t immunocompromised—but we know a lot of cancer families where their kids are undergoing chemo. Do they deserve it? Empathy goes a long way.

Mentioned this in a thread, but will comment at a top-level:
ProsperousUniverse.com - You’ll end up wanting to use spreadsheets for the game. It’s EVE Online production/trading without the combat.
It’s a very slow paced game so don’t go into it expecting a current-era gaming experience. And yes, super viable to play the game without paying anything for at least 9months.
Sounds like you’re playing ProsperousUniverse.

Nah, stay. Just have loud conversations amongst the audience ignoring anyone onstage/with a mic. Ignore anything that is said.
Make the speaker angry enough to leave.
