Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Can anyone recommend some extremely comfortable men's shoes that come in at least an EE wide width for every day wear?English
4·1 month agoLows are durable, provide great support and come in wide for under $300. I currently have their Renegade EVO GTX Mid model in wide. I use almost daily for field work. I am also very pleased with my Merrill Moab 3 low cut. Those also come in MID boot with wide size and are under $200. Everyone’s feet are different but I recommend both of these.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•if you're offered a position you can use to advance your career but it involves people without boundaries, do you tell your maybe-future-to-be manager you don't want to work with those people?English
9·1 month agoAlmost every place I’ve worked I’ve had to deal with people as you describe. If you want to advance you need to develop strategies to deal with disruption. Depending on the situation you could; explain you are trying to learn a specific topic and ask them for their experienced insights (a little flattery never hurts and they might share helpful information), enforce your boundaries and say the question is a bit personal and makes you uncomfortable, say the day has you frazzled and you need quiet time to concentrate/regroup (again maybe flattery, I don’t know how you are so calm on a day like today), redirect the question back on them (you don’t actually have to care and listen, just some fake active listening nodding, say really, wow and make some eye contact), occasionally give some tidbits to appease them and not appear too stand-off ish, could be real or just make shit up) Consider what Jordanlund said, it might be their way of dealing with pressure, be more understanding, everyone has different coping mechanisms. Also tell yourself the situation is temporary, it is a stepping stone to your next goal and you will not have to deal with them forever.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are there enough resources in the world to allow everyone (or at least the vast majority) to live comfortably and happily?English
21·1 month agoThere are people picking up trash, cleaning restrooms, changing bed pans, repairing infrastructure, teaching children how to read, giving legal aid and providing medical care all for free. It’s called volunteering and millions upon millions upon millions of people do it every day. Hospitals, schools, soup kitchens, nature conservancies, youth sports, and museums all rely heavily upon volunteers. Organizations like Habit for Humanity, Doctors without boarders, Red Cross, Red Crescent, Meals on Wheels, Second Harvest, and Rotary International are largely staffed by volunteers. Those who give of themselves know this to be true.
