Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a good VR headset these days (and other VR hardware questions) ?
8·2 days agoYeah, new standalone VR headset from Valve. It’s pretty lightweight, modular, has eye tracking and runs on SteamOS. It includes an x86 to ARM emulator to run Windows PC games. And it can run Android games, ie Quest games.
But it is mainly meant for streaming from a PC. They use the eye tracking for “foveated streaming” to only send the parts of a frame where the user is actually looking. Testers report that they cannot defeat this no matter how quickly they move their eyes around.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Have anyone here actually published a memoir or know of someone IRL (as in, you've met them face to face) that published a memoir? Do people actually read these?
4·2 days agoI’m currently reading my grandma’s memoirs. I’d really like to see them published, there are some really dramatic stories in there.
But I think it’s too much work for my aunts. They don’t want to publish them as they are without censoring names.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•The sorry state of saving (mostly a rant)
2·2 days agoI think there’s a Decky plugin that allows you to save the whole state of a game and suspend it. Kind of like save states for emulators. i never needed it but from what I hear it works well.
You can run multiple frontends and backends on multiple machines. And I’m pretty sure that you can also run PostgreSQL on multiple machines.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are the fastest moving objects with some mass in everyday life?
18·2 days agoDepends on how you define everyday life, but there are currently trillions of Neutrinos flying through you at almost light speed. I think their mass still hasn’t been measured. But it’s pretty low.

My Nokia N900 with its paltry 128 MB RAM had better multitasking than a modern Android. It’s a farce.
I had it running on my Vega 64. But it had to be exactly one specific version of ROCm. Been a while since I’ve played around with that so I don’t remember the specifics.

Linux@lemmy.ml•So, why *should* GNOME support server side decorations?
14·3 days agoMost of the time, we’re not so starved for pixels that we have tp be stealing from the title bar.
Plus, when we actually are starved for space SSD allow the system to make the necessary adjustments.

Linux@lemmy.ml•So, why *should* GNOME support server side decorations?
8·3 days agoIf they would just take it a step further and embraced the Kernel’s most important “don’t break userspace” rule.

Björn@swg-empire.detoShitty Ask Lemmy@lemmy.uhhoh.com•Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look? English
5·4 days agoYou’ve got to be kidding me. I’ve been further even more decided to use even go need to do look more as anyone can. Can you really be far even as decided half as much to use go wish for that? My guess is that when one really been far even as decided once to use even go want, it is then that he has really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like. It’s just common sense.

Ugh, just cancel them and let them die already.
