Dr Jekell@lemmy.worldto Linux@lemmy.ml•Looking for a distro that creates users on first boot after installationEnglish29·1 month agoIt’s called “OEM install”.
Ubuntu based distros should have it.
Of course it would be a Nvidia driver issue.
Thought about getting a AMD card but as I had only had one major issue with my previous 1070 (that was fixed by reloading my Timeshift snapshot then not upgrading the driver until the next version) so I thought that I would continue with Nvidia.
Eh, I can’t change it for now but at least I know what is causing it and can work around it.
Thanks for the assist.
Just made a reply to Björn Tantau.
Here is what I started with:
And what I have today after 3 suspends:
Will check after work today.

If you still want to use a USB or PCIE WiFi then you are best served by looking for a card with intel chip sets as their drivers are included in the Linux kernel so they are often plug and play.

The problem is their message was lost in the forest of “oh woah betide this property developer not being able to build” that was most of the article.
The article is 85% about the property developer and what they wanted, very biased and poor reporting.
Dr Jekell@lemmy.worldto Aotearoa / New Zealand@lemmy.nz•'Absolutely gobsmacked' - Property developers slam decision to temporarily stop new builds' wastewater connection in Auckland suburbEnglish8·3 months agoFrom the sounds of it there is about 4000 more connections worth of capacity before the current system is at 100% capacity.
This sounds like a lot but ideally you do not want to run a system at 100% capacity for long periods as it leaves no spare capacity for surge events (where there is a sudden short term increase in usage), weather events and such like.
It also creates problems with loss of capacity due to equipment breakdown &/or maintenance, when that happens and they can’t fix it quickly enough then the raw waste will have to be temporarily stored (causing the equipment to be running at over 100% capacity running a much higher risk of further equipment breakdowns to deal with the normal usage plus the stored waste) or more likely minimally treated then released into the ocean.
So restricting the use of the remaining capacity while it causes problems for people who want to develop properties it saves rate payers hundreds of thousands of dollars in unexpected waste water costs and reduces the chances of the council having to release waste into the environment.
Dr Jekell@lemmy.worldto Linux@lemmy.ml•Wi-fi not working on Pop os 24.04 cosmic desktopEnglish5·3 months agoThree things,
- Have you tried using a newer kernel?
- You should be able to use a USB tethering to use your phone for internet.
- I really despise USB & PCIE WiFi adapters as they cause so many issues. If your computer has an ethernet port then you are better off getting an WiFi access point that has Wi-Fi bridge mode, you can connect your computer to it using an ethernet cable then connect the access point to the WiFi. Your computer only sees the ethernet connection so no additional drivers, settings or futzing around needed.
I have had the issue of having to enter a password to access an additional drive on my Manjaro PC.
I was pointed to this as a possible solution and it worked for me.
It may or may not work for you though.
You could try either googling your ISP name + country + router setup to see if they publish their settings or you can contact the ISP to see if they will give them to you.
Note this is all dependent on the ISP giving you a ONT fiber box that you connect a router to using an ethernet cable. Some ISP’s will give a router that the fibre is plugged into which is a different beast altogether.
Did you check to see if you needed a VLAN attached to the PPPoE connection?
I know for my fibre connection here in NZ I have to attach VLAN 10 to my connection setup to allow for it to connect.
From what I understand about the windows 10 install is you have to remove the internet connection to get the option.

It may help responders who have been trained on the device & app’s, have the app’s already downloaded and configured and have a reliable way to recharge both the devices and cell phones.
If they are trying to get more people to install fixed stations and learn how to use them then more power to them.
Though I think that they may have a easier time getting people to start installing PRS radios in vehicles, homes, heavy machinery and getting handheld units.
It is a lot simpler and cheaper to get a PRS radio installed & provided with reliable power and 90% of people can use them without training.
