  • In the same way however nebula could decide to switch to proprietary licenses and discontinue their open source offerings.

Sure but you’d still have whatever the last commit was to nebula under the MIT license. It can be forked etc etc.

I am sure headscale is great, but its a side project and if so inclined (not saying they are, tailscale seem quite generous), they could kill it a lot faster than Defined Networking could kill nebula. But its all a gamble.

  • I think nebula is really cool and am heavily considering it in production.

Having a paid-for service that makes things easier is a good way to keep money going into the project, I think. And it feels a lot safer in terms of rug pull than tailscale/headscale. The android apps not being in fdroid and have some other limitations sucks… but I feel like those are easier to solve than some other issues that could be there.

If you want tailscale, but not tailscale, check out netbird. You can self host the auth server and it isn’t some side project, the whole auth server is open.

  • the prvke smaller camera cube does not look that big… I don’t think you’re going to find a bag with side access where the cube is significantly smaller than the one in the prvke.

The problem I see with a camera insert in a small bag is that the access to the camera will still be inconvenient. Especially when packing stuff other than camera gear.

Put the bag at the top?

Or get one of those holster style cases for the camera, so its outside of your main bag, and just put the lenses in some protective thing.

  • The roll top does expand nicely and fits quite a bit of stuff. The aesthetics of a filled roll top isn’t great, but I’m not the most stylish person, so take that with a grain of salt.

I’ve mostly packed a jacket, beanie, some snacks. Nothing too much.

If all you have is one camera and two lenses, you might consider just getting a camera insert that you can throw into any bag. It’d be way cheaper. I have a few from Tenba and they’re quite nice.

  • Replaces the Archwiki with basically 0 docs

Arch wiki is still relevant, I still use it as a reference on my NixOS box.

a large chunk of your Linux knowledge no longer applies

Your pacman and pacur (or whatever the name of the air helper soup de jour is this week) will no longer apply. Most of my linux knowledge was still applicable. You have all the same programs that run in the same way as they do on arch.

    you can’t compile from source

Sure you can. Want to compile everything from source? Just turn off using the cache. NixOS is a source based distro.

    everything is different

Also no. I use the same programs I can get on most other distros.

the nix language kinda sucks until you “get” it, etc.

If you have ever used another functional language its fine.
