Wild to see this, living only a few blocks away. For those unaware (likely all of you), Carlisle is the county seat of a deeply red county on the rural/urban divide in Pennsylvania. The borough itself has a population of only 20k.
What you’re seeing here is the town square on the intersection of the two main streets through town out in front of the courthouse. It’s always been a popular ‘soapbox’ spot and most days you’ll see at least a person or two advocating for a cause. I have never seen half as many people for a protest here. This was genuinely bonkers to see.
Most people do. It’s just called AI in the media everywhere and marketing works. I think online folks forget that something as simple as getting a Lemmy account by yourself puts you into the top quintile of tech literacy.
I appreciate the implied optimism on the future state of the world.
Oh no, it looks like Mump really did break up.
So, I hate Apple as much as the next nerd, but even I have to admit the new m.whatever chips are pretty slick. My wife is in design and has always fussed over Apple, so I relented and got her an Air for her last upgrade. Considering the price it’s still an impressive, sturdy little machine with bonkers battery life.
As Democrats know all too well, national trends don’t decide elections. For reasons that increasingly strain credulity, that simply is not how US elections work. Any analysis that doesn’t spend the bulk of its time on what happened in Pennsylvania and Michigan specifically is probably not worth reading. People in these states know that their votes have massive impact compared to states like California and Wyoming and so they behave differently.
Businesses around here are constantly selling old rack and standing servers on Craigslist. $50 ish on up depending on age and configuration, just have slap some drives in them. I set one up with ZoneMinder and some cheap poe IP cameras for my house. Works great and shrinks the ewaste pile a little bit.
The problem is not so much the test itself, which can be useful sometimes, but the idea that ‘intelligence’ can be fully encapsulated by a single number that is both immutable and discrete.
Remind me which states pay all the fucking taxes again?
What factory jobs?
They don’t have the right to deny due process either. Still happening.
implying they ever stopped
The worst of these I have ever seen was my high school football field men’s room urinal, yes singular, because it was just an old cast iron tub in the center of a bare concrete room. It wasn’t uncommon to have 8-10 men and boys around it pissing at halftime. It was only replaced maybe 15 years ago.
Narrator: Unfortunately, it did not.
Calling it ‘search’ is basically propaganda at this point. The results have been fucked for ages.
Can’t lose what you never had.
I find the very idea of being “left on read” ridiculous. I am not entitled to the immediate or even incidental attention of every person whose phone number I happen to posses. Maybe it’s because I started dating at a time and place when not seeing or hearing from your significant other for a week was perfectly normal, but putting an emotional valuation on a read receipt seems well out of the category of mentally healthy.
