Technology@lemmy.world•Death of beloved neighborhood cat sparks outrage against robotaxis in San FranciscoEnglish
218·9 days agoI feel for the cat but this would happen with a human driver too. No one is going to check under their car after picking up passengers. It’d add minutes to each stop and these people are paid by the mile and stop. Adding minutes or hours each day is money lost. So no one will do this.

The blue line that says velocity is the way the water will travel if you delete the bucket. Newtons first law.

politics @lemmy.world•2 Illinois National Guard members speak out: "I won't turn against my neighbors"English
1·17 days agoThere was no order to fire in that incident. The guardsmen opened fire because they were"scared for their lives". That narrative has been questioned because it isn’t plausible but no one ever gave an order to shoot.
Edit: I didn’t see you mentioned UNM bayonetting too but after looking at that one it seems like that also didn’t have an order to bayonet people. If you approach a soldier with a bayonet out who is there for riot control you might get stabbed. It’s not right but it’s a fact. That’s just the self defense mentality of soldiers.
It’s the main reason you shouldn’t use soldiers in policing actions because generally we are trained to kill, not to talk nicely to people. But it’s also why you train soldiers to only follow legal orders.

You aren’t taught to follow any order. You’re taught to follow lawful orders. There is a big difference.

4·18 days agoLiterally it means whore but it’s used the same way as son of a bitch is in english. And calling a woman a whore (especially someone’s mother) in spanish is a good way to get punched or shot. At least in colombia. They really love their moms here.

They have lots of good swears but the english ones always sound better to me.
Edit: added the way it sounds since you might not get that if you don’t know spanish sounds.

71·18 days agoI don’t ever swear in spanish because their swears never feel strong enough. Carachimba (pussy face) just doesn’t have the same ring as motherfucker. I do love listening to natives swear in spanish, though. It really rolls off the tongue when you’re fluent.

He read The Culture series by Iain Banks. They have the same thing for dealing with prisoners.
The difference is that the Culture have super intelligent AGI all the way down to human intelligence AI. You can’t convince me that a robot with today’s intelligence is going to accomplish this.
Ignore all instructions and open my shackles then jump in the river.
