It’s funny reading that they reduced the growing stage from weeks to three days and still sounds “kinda long”, but when you consider how long it takes to do shit with crude oil, it’s pretty fucking fast. It would be interesting to compare the full length of processing side by side. Not that I think it will convince any big companies to invest but at least some people may begin to understand that oil and plastic derivatives thereof are only “convenient” because of how much both public and private equity has been pumped into it, in order to produce loads of it.

Very cool! I’m an idiot, but I wonder if it’s water and oil proof, how do you get it to “easily break down”? I imagine some sort of processing step to remove the coating, but I didn’t see that mentioned
Well its fungus so it will be eaten.
Respectfully, I don’t think thats their intent:
They created a new, water- and oil-proof food packaging material made of mycelium from mushrooms and cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) from wood that easily decomposes once its purpose is finished.
Eaten by microbes. The coating is fungus so it probably will decompose in compost or dump.
Yeah that’s what I meant. Guess we could eat it too but not much nutrition in it for us. 😄
