Alright, nerd talk:
The circle is the 2d variant of the sphere which has the highest volume / surface ratio possible. So the exposed surface of this cylinder is the smallest possible to create.
Although traditions aren’t wrong. Usually. So why?
My guess is that you can create stable wood storage and drying solutions that don’t need additional support and are stable enough to stand anywhere.
To let it dry out before winter.
This is just the beginning; in the end it will be taller and covered with some sort of roof, I guess.
