Wow… I just don’t understand how American law works and this just shows it multiple times throughout the thing…
Cops in the US are lazy and entitled as fuck. They also don’t represent or defend the working class; they exist to protect the rich and uphold the status quo. It also doesn’t help that the US still doesn’t take online harassment as serious as it should.
we have plenty of horrible people who are cops, and we have plenty of good people who are cops that turn to blind eye because they prioritize their lives over the minorities the bad cops are being s*** heads to. any truly good people that would be willing to turn in bad cops end up being ostracized and leaving service. So all we end up with are bad cops and indifferent cops.
Even with all above stated it’s a thankless position where you are underpaid to put your life on the line or a regular basis. The US criminal system is designed to create reoffenders, so the people trying to evade or kill the cops have experience doing so. Everybody’s in a hurry to arm each other to the gills guns pour out of the streets like water. We couldn’t even install good police reform until we start tackling the injustice in the criminal system.
It’s all broken and greed and corruption and politics. And it’s in a downward spiral for profit.
Even with all above stated it’s a thankless position where you are underpaid to put your life on the line or a regular basis.
Cops where I live (Seattle) are paid well and they still do fuck-all. It’s a thankless position because they’ve done everything they can to earn the contempt of regular people and precious little too earn our respect. There are lots of jobs where people are paid less and get assaulted more, and those people still do their jobs. Cops really have no excuse; they act the way they do simply because they’re allowed to get away with it, and then they get butthurt when people have the nerve to ask for some accountability.
Hello, fellow Seattleite!
Anecdote time: Yesterday morning, someone walking their dog found the body of a dead man around 10am. Around 3am, someone from that area called police to report the sound of shots fired. The police did not respond to the call until the body was reported at 10.
I saw a post today on Reddit about someone in Seattle whose home was invaded by their neighbors. They had a bunch of property destroyed, had a gun pointed at them, and then got pistol whipped. The cops showed up and asked questions but made no move to do anything about the neighbors. Fucking useless.

You’re just describing bad cops.
American law works however the people with money and power decide it does in this 5-minute stretch. It’s meant to be inscrutable.
My sister was being sexually harassed online by a guy online for years. He would cyberstalk everything she did and she then tried to get the police to help after she couldn’t handle it anymore.
The cop that came to our house blamed my sister for it. Told her she must have done something to get this guys attention even though she never met him or spoke to him before.
I told another person I knew about the guy and she messaged him. The guy sent her a dick pic. She was 15.
If you wanna watch a half hour documentary about how pathetic the guy is, then please watch this video with over 500k views about him. It’s crazy to think my sister called the cops on the guy over a decade ago and because of that one cop, the guy was able to so much bad he got half a million views online for it.
Complete badasses and well done! And good on persuading the judge to hand down a more appropriate sentence.
At least part of the problem here is American prudery. If society could just accept that everyone has a nude body and it’s not something to be ashamed of, the victims wouldn’t be so traumatized.
What absolute bad assess.
Wow. I read the article and the guy doing it also did to other women, including the stalker’s own underage relative. Luckily, the sisters were able to get him sent to prison.
But one of the things that really pisses me off is that the ex-boyfriend of one of the sisters sent MORE images to the stalker.
Like, the stalker already had some, and this fuckwad sent him MORE.
And he got off the hook because he said he was sorry and was only doing it to “gain the stalker’s trust”.
Basically, he supposedly didn’t do it out of malice (just overwhelming monumental stupidity…which I don’t believe, I think he just got lucky by saying sorry and by the laws in the books worded in such a way that BAD intent was necessary for it to be a crime). They settled with him in court later on, but the idea that someone could send a stalker nudes of their GF/ex-gf and get out of it by acting like it wasn’t a malicious act but “only trying to help” is infuriating. That loophole definitely needs to be closed.
Wow, that’s some epic struggle against the injustice system. Amazing that anycritter makes it through, let alone gets anything like justice out of it. Heroes, all.
Of course the pisshead’s going to appeal: he doesn’t regret what he did, nor hope to improve himself as a person. He simply resents facing consequences.
Now the question is, did he stop or did this lack of legal responsibility empower him to take on more victims with less personal ties.
The article says he was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison. So yeah, I’d say he stopped. At least until his appeal makes it to court, at which point his conviction could potentially be overturned.
Federal prison sentences are more rare to win appeal than state ones. The Feds generally don’t bring a case to court they aren’t dead sure they’ll win and have stick.
I like how the article just shows two pics of one of them.
I think the point is that neither one of them wanted to have their names in the public court record. But because the police originally refused to follow up on it, they weren’t able to take him to court as Jane Doe. They had to enter their names in the public record, which only makes it more likely that things like this will pop up again when their name is googled.
So the article is basically an attempt to point out how fucked that is, (and attempting to get ahead of those negative search results) and part of that is probably minimizing the amount of actual imagery used.
But also… Did you go to the article just to look at photos of them?
