In my opinion they should have just discontinued the lifetime sub instead of the ridiculous pricing and bad press.

40w
It’s an old microATX build with 3 HDDs, 1 SSD, 1 M.2 and a Quadro P400 so I think 40w average is pretty good. It’s on 24/7 with no spin down.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Have you ever had a meltdown because of age verification ?
4·2 months agoDo you mean meltdown as in agressive or it makes you uncomfortable when asked?
Its not really a factor for me, at the moment anyway. I never get asked for ID when buying a bottle of whatever and I haven’t bothered to give ID for “verification” to anything yet and nothing has changed.
The alternative frontends need to be added to a Lemmy server by the admins so not everywhere has them. Lemmy.world has quite a few though which are listed in the sidebar.

I don’t even bother with most apps anymore unless I have to. I use the Photon UI, so https://p.lazysoci.al/ or https://photon.lemmy.world/
The UK government is like: “submit ID first before you use iPhone”, like WTF? As apparently, they are considering on making that the default way to unlock a cellphone whilst spying on you (like they already are) keeping tabs on what apps you’re currently using, have downloaded or purchases made online.
Source?
Honestly I’m torn on the whole issue but also at the same time I haven’t once submitted verification ID so nothing has changed for me. Hopefully it stays that way…
and people using Sam from Death Stranding for face ID is just hilarious :D
You could keep the chain going and pass it down to somebody else?

I don’t have any recommendations buy will say that my watch is one thing that I’ve changed over the last 2 years to be “just” a watch. I used to have a Huawei and Samsung and use it for tracking everything but I decided to get a Citizen Eco-Drive and haven’t looked back since. Can’t get more private than that :D
I would start by adding a couple more indexers but don’t go overboard. 3 or 4 should be good and then swap them out as needed. Also something to note is make sure you aren’t just “hit n run” on everything and seed properly.

This has been my default for a couple years now. Qwant search is ok at best but I mainly use it because I wanted an EU alternative with some privacy. As for Vivaldi I think its great, and especially with an OISD list with the built in blocker.

I tried Jellyfin probably 2 years ago and it was fine but Plex is just “plug n play” in regard to my family setting it up themselves with little help from me.
Plexamp is the only way I stream music too so that’s a big reason why I won’t move yet.
