Feijoa is one of my fav fruits, so I can only imagine this is good. Thanks for sharing.

There are lots of simple methods for weed control with little environmental impact. Boiling water works well for small areas, as does salt if you really don’t want anything growing, and weed wands (a flame thing) are also pretty effective.
I’m on Starlink as well, and it’s a game changer. Similar wisp situation where I’m at (Wairarapa), but as I deliver a lot of online training I also have a backup 4g connection with some carefully placed antennas. Starlink means the whole family can be online, downloading, watching videos etc while I can still work. 4g can manage when it’s just me.
I’ll give Starlink an 11.248, as it’s pretty bloody amazing and been super reliable for a dish you can take pretty much anywhere in the country (or on a boat as is my future plan)
I’m on both, but using memmy on iOS I really don’t even notice which instance I’m on anymore. It takes me back to using Apollo
We’ve had pretty good luck starting them off in the greenhouse and transplanting. The birds seem to go for them as seedlings when we direct sow. Good luck.
There are plenty of people selling them on Trademe now for a few $ so maybe check that out
We planted ours in October and still got tons so take that with a grain of salt. Probably somewhat dependent on the climate in your area too.
We found celtuce did better in semi shady spots, or earlier in the season (like brassicas). We’ve got some growing slowly outdoors now.
You can plant the vegetable directly and it will just grow from there. I’d probably sprout it inside for a bit first (think a bit like potatoes getting eyes) and then just half bury it in the ground. We just used some we got from the local veggie market.
We’ve got a couple on the ground still (in a somewhat frost protected area) but I’d probably wait till your last frost date if you are starting fresh. We use them in stir fries, soups, stews, hotpot etc.
You can basically substitute them for anything you’d use cauliflowers or even courgettes for. They are very easy to cook and hard to go wrong with. We keep experimenting and they always turn out good.
As planted ours along an area we have for climbing plants. It did go over some trees behind them too, but given that’s what the area is for I won’t complain. They are tasty, store well and are good for trading with neighbours too. 10/10, will grow again. We use them as an alternative to celtuce but easier and faster to grow.
I live in the Wairarapa and we grow them from October-May/June. They even survived a few light frosts and over winter fine once pruned back. We would have got 100+ from our two plants this year. Recommended.
Fair call. Don’t think you can go too far wrong either way. Good luck.
I’ve found mlem pretty buggy compared to memmy so far, but hopefully as popularity continues to increase we get more options.
I do IT work, mainly remote and the occasional business trip. Based near Masterton, so 1.5 hours to airports in either direction either Welly or Palmy. It’s big enough to have most of what I need, and close enough I can get anywhere quick enough. Housing is way cheaper. Quality of life and community feeling just way better for us. Recommended.
Yeah I’m in this comment and I’m not sure I like it.
But it does take me back to the shift from Digg to Reddit. My Reddit account (16+years) was older than so many users on the site. Nuts to think about it. The vibe changed massively over the years.
People capitalising on their kids for social media fame is pretty repugnant. I think you have to be a certain kind of narcissist to turn that into a career for them at that age.
