Yeah I agree for the most part. I will say I think moderation can have problems though (example: Reddit for a while did that thing where they would ban 1 fascist subreddit for inciting violence against minorities and then also ban 10 leftist subreddits for people saying John Brown was based).
But I think it depends on how the platform is designed and how moderation is implemented. Lemmy’s implementation is some of the best I’ve seen.
But I do agree, some form of moderation is necessary.
Yeah, I think the amount of non-fascist people has gone down since Musk bought Twitter. I anticipate it will continue with that trend. The process is not instant, especially when the platform is as pervasive as Twitter. But I think Twitter is a good demonstration of why moderation is a good thing.
And yeah, moderation is often not implemented in a perfect way. But I think Lemmy’s transparency (mod logs) approach is an improvement over traditional moderation.
Sure but without moderation you’re left with a Nazi echo-chamber. When there’s no mechanism to kick out the Nazis, most normal people will leave over time. A platform that allows Nazis just becomes a Nazi platform.
I’m not sure, but in my opinion, moderation is necessary. Any network without moderation will be flooded with Nazis and pedophiles. I don’t think you’ll have a good time.
You’re right, I’m not a Democrat. I’m a socialist and anti-fascist. My interest right now is seeing the fascist lose. I don’t see a path for Biden to win.
Biden shouldn’t have run again. The Dems should have primaried him. If they had, all of this would have been apparent long ago, but instead his aids have tightly controlled his media appearances for months to hide his cognitive decline from everyone except those playing close attention.
It only gets worse for Biden from here. He is at both his floor and ceiling, he has the “vote blue no matter who” and that’s it.
There is definitely risk in running Kamala or someone else at the top of the ticket. They might lose anyways. But any other Dem would start approximately at Biden’s spot in the polls and then have numerous paths to get where we need to beat Trump.
You think Biden will get younger? The media will stop covering his fuck ups every time he steps foot in front of a camera? I don’t see how Biden can gain so much ground short of discovering the fountain of youth.
That’s one of the worst Lemmy instances imo.
I love ABS, I use it for both podcasts and audiobooks.
I mean, even without straight up saying his age, the advice is boomer-coded. I’m not even saying it’s bad advice. But it’s not relevant to the title of the post.
It’s because you fucked up the assignment. Under 30 give advice, over 30 receive advice.
If the feds connect to the tracker before the file is fully seeded, the IP address of the lone seeder will be exposed. Torrents are good for their resistance to censorship, but they’re bad for privacy.

final hack~
over the past 7 days, we have released a hack every day, from NATO to Israel, we attacked many. we have one more gift for you all, its one minute till midnight so i’ll start the show~
we hacked The Heritage Foundation :3 (holy moly!!!) The Heritage Foundation is a conservative think tank in America, among the most influential public policy organizations. this organization is responsible for leading Project 2025, an authoritarian Christian nationalist plan to reform the United States government.
Project 2025 threatens the rights of abortion healthcare and LGBTQ+ communities in particular. so of course, we won’t stand for that! -
we have gained access to The Heritage Foundation’s database, with user data, logs, and other juicy info :D we also accessed 200GB+ of other, mostly useless, files in their server. these useless files wont be leaked.
mew mew i wonder what would happen if we leaked the passwords, email addresses, and full names of every user :3 every US government employee, even the Heritage president Kevin Roberts.
be gay do crime~

Speaking of ruining it for everyone… Paid Plex shares do exactly that for those of us using Plex for friends and family.
I’d be willing to bet humans also innately believe the earth is flat (in your day-to-day life it certainly doesn’t look like we’re on a spherical object hurling through space), but that doesn’t make it so.

Literally quoting you lol.
I’m old enough to remember “asl?”. Why do you ask about my age, looking for an easy way to dismiss me?
Out of curiosity, are you religious?
To shame someone is entirely different than to feel ashamed of yourself.
Is it? The end result is a feeling of shame. And that feeling of shame, doesn’t make people lose weight. I’ve now said it for the 4th time. But yeah, I’m the one that doesn’t understand words.
If you kick a dog, you should feel ashamed of yourself without someone shaming you. If you forgo a healthy weight or lifestyle in favor of overconsumption and ignorance, you should feel ashamed of yourself without someone shaming you.
I see, so it’s a moral failing of someone to be fat? Akin to kicking a dog? Wild take.
In the end, you’re right. I’m not interested in having this conversation. Because this isn’t a conversation about making people healthier, it’s a moral conversation. And I don’t think someone is immoral for having an eating disorder just as I don’t think someone is immoral for having cancer.
If you would like to discuss actionable, material ways to help people I’m all in. If you want to larp as a televangelist screeching about the evils of being fat, I’m out.
I’m frankly not even clear what the conversation is that you’re trying to have. You claim, “I’m not saying we should shame people” and then go on to once again declare that “if people feel ashamed they’ll lose weight”. So which is it, is shame helpful as a weightloss tool or not? Spoiler alert: it’s not.
To me it honestly seems like you accidentally triple downed on an objectively bad position and are trying to buzzword your way out of it with accusations of virtue signaling and trolling.
Just take the L and move on dude.
Ehh, I disagree. A counter example; I’d bet money that folks in England know more about our country than we do theirs, especially when it comes to politics and current issues. I’m pretty sure most Americans wouldn’t be able to name the British PM or even what party is in power there. Everyone there probably knows Biden is the president and that he is a Democrat.
Also, Al Jazeera publishes in English, I don’t think language is the primary barrier. American media just generally doesn’t cover foreign affairs all that much (and when they do, they generally do a shit job).
