That Napoleon was short
No wonder everything on the hivemind-that-must-not-be-named sounds and feels like it’s being regurgitated by the same people, from the low-effort memes to the armchair city planners, atheist circlejerks and very enlightened political/economic views.
And as for terraforming Mars, all we have to do is do what we’re doing here: Warm it with CO2 emissions. All it takes is a little atmospheric thickening to vaporize its glaciers of dry ice, then just get a bunch of comets to burn up in its atmosphere for the oceans and put an artificial magnetic field at its Lagrange point and turn all that atmospheric CO2 into oxygen with giant vats of cyanobacteria (which are what naturally terraformed Earth billions of years ago)
And we can terraform Venus using future tech we might develop to reverse climate change here, like giant orbital parasols, reflective dust and carbon capture
I was at first excited when he talked about Mars, but now that I know he can’t even run a social media platform I definitely wouldn’t wanna trust him with my life
I agree, many of them appear to be edgy script kiddies upset that people don’t wanna use their precious reddit anymore
I just re-created one of my favorite subreddits on sopuli.xyz, using my alt account on that instance as the mod account.
There are some with very specific purposes/nationalities (like lemmynsfw, lemmy.ca, and one Portuguese-only one for people from Portugal) that somewhat resemble the porn subs and the country-themed subreddits like r/canada and r/suddenlycaralho respectively.
Yeah, it’s not sustainable to just flock to one instance to the point of there being no real competition. Lemmy.world now hosts nearly 3 times as many user accounts as lemmy.ml- the second-largest instance and a much older one too, and has gotten big way too fast.
It seems that the images are stored on imgur

I’ve got an alt on sopuli.xyz
Yes, it’s great. I’d also recommend Memmy since it shows downvotes and upvotes separately instead of net score (which lemmy does, idk about the other reddit-like federated sites) to discourage circlejerking
So… growing pains?
My dad has reported being attacked by a crow at our condo in Seattle
I hated it, I only just barely put up with the toxic community so I could still visit my favorite subs only (I used apollo so I could ignore the garbage that’d be recommended to us constantly). I used the app-pocalypse as an excuse to leave. Now I only lurk there for the ooh-la-la subs, but as more and more creators there have lately been moving to lemmynsfw I might not even need those subs for much longer.
The powermods just demonstrated they can only survive without their precious powertrip for 2 days TOPS, most of our mods are passionate pioneers but in the long term we might also have the powermod problem faced on pretty much every site except Wikipedia’s gigachads and RationalWiki’s democratically-elected mod team. But even then, simply defedding your instance from the ones they powertrip on should quarantine them, and it also helps that since we’re nonprofit they have no boots to lick.
I REALLY don’t want us to bully kids to the point of suicide for using Reddit.
And I dread the day that c/atheism becomes just another embarrassing circlejerk dedicated entirely to bashing believers and blaming all current problems on their overall existence.
One month into my home instance’s existence (lemmy.world) and we’ve already had our inaugural hack and a few technical growing pains that broke several mobile apps for days
Basically “when de revolushin happensh der gonna issue ush bridesh and lower dee age of conshent to shirteen”
Reminds me of what the hoverboard craze of the mid-10s resulted in, products with a bunch of shoddily-assembled components that turn the batteries into bombs making it onto store shelves faster than the new thing powered by said batteries can get new safety guidelines released for it
