1·17 days agoNah. Celine is Canadian. Rihanna is from Barbados, and that’s still where she spends a lot of her time.
Madonna is American but lives in the UK now and has for decades
I was an AuDHD kid in the 90s. That specific word was thrown at me a lot by both adults and my peers, especially because I lose the ability to speak when I’m stressed/overstimulated. I guess it still hurts when I hear it or read it, and going off this thread that’s a “me” problem. Definitely regret posting my original comment

I don’t understand why this word has come back into common usage

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you close doors when you live by yourself?
20·18 days agoI keep my doors closed both for climate control and light. I prefer darker spaces but I have indoor vegetable plants in my spare bedroom. I very softly close my doors though, because I’m overly sensitive to sound lol

6·19 days agoRihanna hasn’t dropped an album in 10 years, and I think she has said she’ll never make another album. I’m positive her wealth comes more from her very successful Fenty brand than her music (as much as I absolutely loved her music back in the day, she wasn’t selling like Swift or Beyonce)
Edit: I’d say the same for Gomez, her wealth is probably from Rare Beauty nowadays

politics @lemmy.world•Trump voter regret is clearly registering now
17·20 days agoThere was an article a few weeks ago where folks were interviewed at a gas station in Pennsylvania. Two of the Trump voters who was fine with the higher prices said it was an acceptable price to pay to keep the nation safe. They really thought Iran was going to attack the US, possibly with nukes.
I have no hope of changing the minds who fervently believe in that crap

5·24 days agoSome of my allergies are seasonal. I can only eat cherries in late fall/winter, for example. I assume it’s linked to some pollens that are common in spring and summer. It’s not the case with seitan unfortunately

7·26 days agoShe believes in aliens too, but not in the sense of little green men. She claims that they are prophets from the old testament that time travel, she always mentioned that passage in Kings with a burning chariot in the sky when she was talking about aliens. She gave me a book about it once, I kind of wish I had held on to it for the laughs.

14·27 days agoI’ve mentioned this before, but my grandmother fully believes in Bigfoot, and claims there are sub-species of Sasquatch that she’s personally seen throughout the US. Debunking this movie won’t matter to her, I doubt she’d even consider for a moment that the footage is fake.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Question for those who didn't learn cursive
4·1 month agoHe said that if anyone audited they’d need to be able to read my name in the signature. I still trusted him at that point so I didn’t have much reason to question it lol
He sure did. He also famously made commercials urging evangelicals to vote against Obama because he was going to bring socialism and take away freedom. Lol

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Question for those who didn't learn cursive
15·1 month agoWhen I bought my first car, my dad (who owned the dealership lol) shredded the paperwork that I signed in cursive, and made me re-write in block letters. It’s the only car or other big-expense/important thing that I didn’t sign for with my usual signature.
My other confusing problem with that transaction was I wasn’t allowed to buy the kind of vehicle I wanted. Yes, I was already an adult living on my own by then, but I figured he knew best. (he did not)

I’m a Navy veteran with service connected PTSD. People question if I have PTSD sometimes and it does indeed piss me off, but I’m not out here claiming to have been blown up while serving. People are starting to become aware that PTSD doesn’t always stem from combat, and that awareness will help more people going forward. Mine comes from being attacked and raped by my shipmates, I didn’t expect to survive it.
I don’t feel disgust that USA Today asked him about his service, instead I wonder why he didn’t have a better response. He could have offered education about PTSD or said he wanted to increase transparency around disability ratings in the VA, or any number of things.
