18·20 days agoMy income is disability, and falls below the poverty line so I don’t technically need to file. I like to file just to make sure i have a record, but damn all the free programs were trying to make me pay out of pocket to file in my state. I’m sure most people are happy to spare the $35 or so for the ease of using software, but not having money at all makes the cost seem absurd. And there’s no reason for these companies to care that I can’t afford it, considering people going to pay that cost because for most the penalty of not filling taxes is much, much higher than the cut those programs take.

Here is a reaction to the findings that were presented at the conference mentioned in the op article.

If I remember correctly, people from your server need to subscribe to the community for the posts to federate. I can’t remember if it’s just one subscriber or if more are needed. Sorry, that’s not super helpful >.<
I think you might have a federation issue, there are daily posts that I can see. Even one as recent as five hours ago

It amazes me that there has been four (I think?) close-ish attempts on this man’s life in the last decade, three in the last two years, and things like this still get through.

politics @lemmy.world•Trump’s new Navy secretary once asked for KKK hood with slits for eyes
2·2 months agoI think so, too. This is why it’s important to talk about non-combat PTSD. So more people get the help they need, and there’s less stigma around it.

World News@lemmy.world•Millionaire US big game hunter is trampled to death by elephantsEnglish
55·2 months agoThe article is confusing because it paints him as a “highly respected” ethical hunter and conservationist that hunts under culling licenses, but goes on to say the duiker he was hunting is rare and elusive. Wikipedia lists it as near threatened.
Man had a
hordehoard of animal trophies too, so it seems like he just found a loophole to killing and collecting animals in a ‘respectable’ wayEdit: pre-coffee typo :)

politics @lemmy.world•Trump’s new Navy secretary once asked for KKK hood with slits for eyes
21·2 months agoI’m a Navy veteran with service connected PTSD. People question if I have PTSD sometimes and it does indeed piss me off, but I’m not out here claiming to have been blown up while serving. People are starting to become aware that PTSD doesn’t always stem from combat, and that awareness will help more people going forward. Mine comes from being attacked and raped by my shipmates, I didn’t expect to survive it.
I don’t feel disgust that USA Today asked him about his service, instead I wonder why he didn’t have a better response. He could have offered education about PTSD or said he wanted to increase transparency around disability ratings in the VA, or any number of things.
