Not in west coast american English at least. I don’t think I would ever mix these up where I live either.

Or “step family”. How does that even work? No one is blood related? That’s just 4 roommates 😅

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What did you stupidly believe as a child?
103·9 days agoNot a belief, but a confusion: I didn’t understand how maps with a “you are here” marker knew where you were. 😅
Yeah, exactly. Merci 👋
Is it greedy to ask for a tour of the plates? 😄 looks amazing!

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you prefer FOSS over proprietary software? How much do you use it?
1·18 days agoI’ll be honest, that was so random and meandering I don’t even know what pill I’m supposed to be having trouble with. 🤷♂️

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you prefer FOSS over proprietary software? How much do you use it?
3·18 days agoThis is very true, great point.
I also find it very hard to switch to Foss stuff for professional uses most of the time, because of the often rough user experience, or sometimes lacking industry standard features. When you do something full time you want to be using the smoothest version of what you need.
I don’t blame the devs for this either. It’s often one or a few enthusiasts doing it in their spare time for free, so I certainly don’t say this in an entitled way. It’s just the reality.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you prefer FOSS over proprietary software? How much do you use it?
52·18 days agoThis might be a hard pill for a lot of people on here to swallow, but for the average user open source is not a feature. Free is, but the user experience is often worse than for closed source software, so it’s a hard sell even at free sometimes.
I’m always very happy to find Foss apps that defy that stereotype, but they’re far and few between from my experience.
Not trying to shit on Foss apps with this, but I see way too many people acting like the open source aspect is a selling point in and of itself, and it’s not except for to the most techy of users.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•I want to attend therapy for the first time! What are some things I should know before signing up?
5·30 days agoI think my only advice is don’t be afraid to go with your gut when picking someone, even if it feels judgmental or irrational. This is one of the things in life where your own comfort is paramount as a starting point.
Feel more comfortable talking to a man, or to a woman? Go with that. Do you get a weird vibe you can’t explain from someone? Go with that and look for someone else.
It’s also OK to look for another one if you don’t like the first one. Just make sure the reason isn’t because they’re making you confront difficult things. That’s the whole point.
Good luck, and I hope you get some positive things from it. It’s not easy, and it can be uncomfortable, but I personally have gotten a lot of clarity from it. Remember that only you can change you, though. All the therapist can do is reveal your patterns to you and give you coping strategies.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How often do you think the highest upvoted comment on a post is the one you most agree with?
31·1 month agoI’m not sure but I will say it’s nice how often the top comments are pretty reasonable on here.
Not to mention a lot of them even have private rooms for pretty cheap.
