Thanks for the insight!
No clue, I’m a Dutch citizen. Do your require to do an iris scan to get a passport in the USA? Might be covered there.
Its been here for decades. It was already mandatory to provide an iris scan upon arrival in the US back when I visited New York in 2013. At the time, I was already baffled it was a requirement and wasn’t happy, but at that moment there is nothing else to do then comply. The US probably has a very big iris scan, fingerprint and passport database of at least the western world.
On the bright side, you only have to work 750 years to be able to afford a home and start a family
It will be difficult to switch my friend groups again, now that they are finally on Signal
I don’t want it to turn into Telegram, just give me a lightweight, secure and privacy focused messaging app.
This is a lose lose type of situation. Less privacy for thee is also less privacy for politicians, they are also citizens themselves. Lets say that they include a backdoor in messaging apps, their private messages are then also vulnerable
Well, yeah, we know. But the governments around the world apparently don’t really care. They want to have control. If only they would realize that this will also hurt them and make them more vulnerable than for the normal citizen. Backdoor in communication would also apply to them, meaning that their communication can also be hacked. Imagine the dirt people could find to blackmail politicians…
But of course. In the same way that you don’t make a test easier for the student that gets bullied.
The criteria and rules to enter the EU have been created through decades of small changes, ensuring that every element in our norms and values is covered. Skipping some of these steps will only result in further misalignment in the future, causing friction. Look for example at Hungary. I am not sure if they took this train of thought/direction recently or if their stance towards the EU was always like this, but if it is the latter, then the EU failed to judge that in the joining process.
My personal take on this is that the EU has already become too big. It used to be small at first, with countries that shared similar beliefs and culture. I think the EU today is way too polarized to be effective. Sure, it is now bigger on the world stage, making a larger fist for our policies. But has also become more difficult to draft policies, due to the cultural and economic differences of its members.
I don’t mind having to watch an ad every now and then, a couple of years ago the ads were still acceptable, watch 30s, one ad, the video starts and enjoy. Now it is two or three ads and the start, which can be longer than the video itself, and you can have ads in the middle of the video. It just becomes very annoying, very quickly. Hence, I started blocking these ads more and more.
When will governments and the EU learn that weakening or eliminating e2e would be a higher security threat than being able to monitor communication. Don’t these suits know that it could also affect them negatively and open the door (pun intended) for criminals to target them?
If any company knows how to fast track their way into bankruptcy, it would be Netflix. Kudo’s for them to try and improve their previous track record!
Ah the infamous wizardry of the backdoor in encryption discussion.
Yeah agreed. Last elections I wasn’t really sure what to vote on anymore, the political landscape is becoming to extreme for my taste. There are virtually no center parties anymore, especially when you exclude the religious related parties. With the recent election and the debates, the media is also trying to create a left versus right, which is a very strange thing to do in our system.
In the end, it would be nice to just have a government that cares about its people and future, they have made way too many mistakes over the past decade, mistakes that were avoidable if only they had listened. Cases in point: reversing the student grant system, pushing important government tasks to local governments (while reducing their budget) and the whole childcare debacle. Literally for all of these f*ups, the government was warned by experts…
Watching from a far (The Netherlands), it always amazed me how the political scale in the US is described. Even the democrats in the US feel more to the right, then positioned in the US. Some people go as far to call democrats communist, but I don’t think these people know what communist really is, in the same way that Americans don’t seem to know what (neo)liberal actually is. It is both entertaining and concerning to watch.
Yeah, imagine running a company, with customers that simply pay the monthly, because it is cheap enough to cancel. But then you start annoying the users and reduce convenience, then increase the price. What could possibly be the end goal here?
I’m adding the ones I have to home assistant, which is what I was planning all along. Maybe add some other brand smart lights, not sure yet which
