I’d argue most of us are older but not too old to remember what the internet was as well.

Other platforms with ads haven’t really seen people move off those platforms. I feel like once it reaches that critical mass of being nearly ubiquitous it takes a massive problem to push people off of it. Look at SMS in the US and how it’s refused to die compared to other markets because it has reached saturation and now the only challenge to that ubiquity is iMessage who basically lives off being a fake SMS service.
That’s capitalism for you. They’re not interested in making things better, they’re interested in making more profit.
Unless it’s good to break the law.
The law is not good or bad, it’s just the law
Not only does the salary go down in small towns but the number of positions are greatly reduced. All it takes is a layoff and that “cheaper” small town could be too expensive because there are no more positions to fill.
It’s not about the legal liability and more that publically traded corporations only want profit. Reddit would need to cater to advertisers who would not like all the porn, it’s why Tumblr and Imgur removed the porn.
It’s weird that 60 years ago Gary would not be considered a small city. Went to shit real fast.
I think Reddit would have to tackle the mountains of porn too for those optics.
Nah those are the wizards who use light to carve the rocks. To think it needs software, otherwise it’s like a dead person on life support with no brain activity, there’s no thinking happening.
Just say you do it through god and you’re good
The country can be huge but most people live in urban areas now, it’s not like they’ve gotta waste time and money running fiber all over north dakota. We’re talking cities with populations that rival some countries.
So you teach rocks to use lightning to think
It’s one thing to regulate foreign corporations and you don’t see me making a case against the EU for regulating Apple or Google. You see me saying this isn’t about data collection like they say, it’s about preserving US power in the software space. The US is completely within it’s rights to block TikTok but you don’t need to lie to me and say it’s for security. The servers are located in the US, there’s no real evidence China has done anything illegal and if Google did the same thing and sold the data to China it would be fine. This whole issue is a bunch of individuals sucking on billionaire tech giant toes.
I appreciate you beating the dead horse, especially with all the sources.
I don’t use TikTok and I don’t think anyone really should but if we’re going to ban TikTok for data collection then there are a lot of platforms that need to be banned. We know the 2016 election was fucked with through Facebook and not a damn thing has been done
I think religion is the problem and not just bad people in the same way I think fascism is a problem not just bad people. A collection of people who are discouraged from challenging authority and encouraged to operate on “faith” that the leaders aren’t corrupt is inherently flawed.
I’ve done it with paying for dental insurance but not going to the dentist because I can’t afford it.
Pretty sure most windows users hate their OS right back.
