  • These are not windjammers though, are they? They look like pretty vanilla, small sail boats (IDK sloops ketches, or yawls… (Wrong … Too many masts. They’re schooners.) Windjammer was a derogatory moniker for the sailing ships built after steel construction became common. Much much taller masts, wire rigging etc.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’d expect a much larger hull and 3 or 4 very tall masts, with something like four square sails per mast.

The Windjammers outcompeted steam vessels for many transoceanic trade routes because they don’t require the constant input of coal to operate.

Picture on that article depicts a ship with six square sails.

EDIT: looked at the picture again. I believe they are schooners.

The prevailing sentiment was that the Japanese would not surrender until their home islands were totally conquered. Their government was in the process of preparing the civilian population to fight to the death. (Research the invasion of Okinawa if you want to know what a US invasion of the main island would have been like.) In a version of the trolley dilemma, the American rational was that the loss of life in two horrific attacks that would shock the Japanese into surrender was less evil than the alternative of invading their home islands.

I’m not making that argument, or saying there were no alternatives, just that the Americans were weighing the loss of life (including civilians) involved in a nuclear bombing against the loss of life (including civilians) in invading the islands.

Notwithstanding other unthought of solutions, the strategy worked, and the apparent alternative would have been brutal.

  • That looks like mild nitrogen deficiency. Growing hydroponic herb requires a lot of nutrients. It’s not like regular houseplants because they get so much more light. To do a good job, you really need probably a three part fertiliser system. At the very least, a high nitrogen fertiliser for growth, and a high phosphorus/low nitrogen fertiliser for the flowering cycle (lights 12 hrs on/12 hours off).

HOWEVER, it looks like you are fairly close to finishing these. How many more weeks do you plan on going before you harvest them? It’s common in the last week or two to just give the plants pure water (no fert) to force it to use up excess nutrients in the plant itself. Anecdotally, too much fertiliser salts in the plant itself contributes to a harsh smoke. You may just choose not to worry about Mike noticed deficiency and enjoy the end product.

All in all, your plants look pretty healthy. I’d recommend doing some research on pruning for next time. You’ve got some pretty substantial lateral growth. Stems are a waste of effort… unless you’re shooting to make bespoke hemp.

  • That was the first word in my head: nope. There’s a whole lot of nope in this photo.

“Yeah, just wheel the piano over against the far wall.”

I’d be freaking out every time a kid jumped off a chair, or came down the stairs too fast. Strictly love -making. No fucking allowed.

Darjeeling had this feeling in lots of places, but not this extreme.

  • I second this. This sounds like older men seeking validation. I’m willing to bet that they’ve been sold on a mythical contract: “If you do X, you will have a smooth life and get respect.” Problem is, many in the public don’t believe in X or think it’s a problem, their families/wife probably doesn’t think much of them, and they haven’t had the life they thought they were entitled to. Often this crew is looking for someone to blame for the unfulfilled contract nobody ever agreed to.

I suspect they’re looking for validation (“Tell me I’m right and good.”), and you’re agreement that the people they think cheated them indeed did that and are bad/cheaters.

Old White Guys really got sold on this, “get a job, work hard, and your wife will lust after you,” false contract. That’s why they can be so hateful. It’s either find someone who stole their reward from them, or acknowledge they believed a lie.

EDIT: I don’t think you should be validating them. I believe they’re wrong, and this mentality is a problem. Life is full of adversity. Success is not facing no adversity, it’s facing it well. Also, you’re not owed anything from other people. The only solution is to focus on being excellent, believe in yourself, and choose to move on from the people and things that don’t bring you life. You can only control yourself.
