You are saying that, though. By saying both of them are at fault, you are implicitly stating that the immigrant did something wrong in this scenario. By your logic, you also did something wrong by applying for the job. It is highly likely the person before you was also being paid more and you got the job for less, making you exactly the same as the immigrant in this scenario.

How exactly, and be direct, did the immigrant wrong you here by seeking employment? Again, they do not know the background that you specifically were cut. The capitalist does, however.

The immigrant didn’t cost anyone their job, try to put the corpo boot down for a second and think. The capitalist cost you your job, because they can exploit someone else better than you at both of your expenses. You lose a high paying job, and immigrant gets less rights and a lower wage than someone with your privilege would have. The capitalist could afford to hire both of you with decent wages and benefits, and as a worker you know there is plenty of work you could use more people to help with.

The immigrant did not attack you and steal anything from you, they were looking for an opportunity to provide for themselves and their family just like you when you were looking for that job. They weren’t in the board room when the execs decided you were too much of a problem legally and financially.

Incredibly relevant discourse for the current US political environment

Apologies for reddit link, can’t upload video directly in a comment on lemmy. The information this individual covers is absolutely vital for understanding modern politics in the US, and needs to be common knowledge if the US is ever going to recover from the exploitation that has led us here.

Most on lemmy will already be aware of the basics covered here, but for anyone confused as to why dems always choose failure in the most frustrating ways, this will explain it for you. This is why we need to support actual progressives who refuse to be bought and paid for.

That literally is how America works, or is supposed to. We elect people to make these policies and laws on our behalf, or lobby for them if their position doesn’t directly allow them to. Mamdani is not running for emperor, he is running for mayor of NYC. Mayors do not create federal or state law.

If you don’t understand politics, you should educate yourself on the basics before you go off and look like a jackass. There is literally nothing wrong with being silent and humble until you understand a topic well enough to speak on it.

I was in the CJ field for 10 years, which opened my eyes to a lot. I know you think “they’re fascists who ignore the law” is reductionist or untrue, but that is literally it. It is that simple. It is also not new, regular law enforcement in the US has been exactly like this for pretty much our entire history.

When you break the law, and you have powerful deeply ingrained cultures and institutions backing you that will look away or refuse to apply the law to you, then the law effectively does not exist. Laws are social contracts that are invented entirely by us, and literally do not exist if not enforced. The universe does not care. There is no karmic balance that steps in to even things out.

I think many are just ignoring this or trying to rationalize it some other way, because it is terrifying to come to terms with when you are told your entire life that these institutions, police and courts and laws and checks and balances, are in place to protect you. Law enforcement in the US has fascism and nationalism baked into its core, and most of them are actively wanting what ICE is doing. Many law enforcement are in their ranks or are assisting in ways that most people don’t even realize. And beyond that, the rest of our judicial and political systems are also being manipulated or just blatantly ignored to pave the way for this.

Ultimately the question being posed to the US at this point is, what happens when the people in power do not care or feel empathy, except for their own goals, and there is no sufficient opposition. There are no easy answers to this. When two opposing forces collide, one or the other has to give in some way. ICE has had basically zero consequences for their actions, despite how blatantly illegal and wrong they are. So far, their side is applying more force and it shows.
