Track_Shovel@slrpnk.netto pics@lemmy.world•[Not OC] Texas house photographed in the Dust Bowl eraEnglish16·3 months agoThe dust bowl stretched as far north as Palliser’s triangle.
I’ve dug pits near Selkirk MB, and average topsoil depth in that area is 20 cm, and the soils are regosolic (meaning it’s topsoil over top of regolith, rather than having a transitional horizon) in most farmers fields.
Go off into the bush 200 m away, and the soil there, that had the exact same pedogenic conditions has the 60 cm of Ah horizon (black topsoil), super strong structure, a fully developed B horizon (that transition horizon I mentioned earlier) and then the C (regolith).
This is all because the area lost a foot of topsoil during the 30s, and what was left was poorly managed - conventional tillage for decades - which has caused plow erosion of the B horizon and admixing of the poorer subsoil horizons into the A horizon.
This erosion of the B happens because in a conventional tillage system, you lose a few mm of soil each year off the top, yet your plow depth settings don’t change because you still need that 30 cm or whatever it is to grow your crops.
What a WONDERFUL phrase

He may be a fuckwaffle, but he is your fuckwaffle. It’s big of you setting your differences aside. If you don’t go, and he means a lot to you outside of his political views, then you might regret not going. If you don’t really care for him and political ideology is more important then dont go. I think not going is kind of crossing the Rubicon, but I don’t know the situation part from your details

You make some great points; i just abhor coincide, and pick at it like a dried scab. This sometimes leads me to the ‘put everything in this square hole’ approach (cue nerdy girl melting down).
The truth is probably somewhere in the middle: Russians meddling (and others) a bit when opportunities arise, because a right wing or destabilized west benefits them, with fascist groups emboldened as a result. There’s probably more to it and this is a ‘4 am phone check response’ and I’m going back to bed.

I think it’s all Russian propaganda hard at work. It just seems too systematic. You can almost predict what the next talking point/rhetoric is going to be. I’ve had several occasions where I’ve seen a comment online that really seems out there or needlessly inflammatory, and then watched that comment slowly get adopted and spread to the right, only to become the drum they bang for the next 6 months. It also all seemed to start 2015ish, which somewhat lines up with the Crimean invasion.
