They don’t want us to be in control of our own compute anymore because we don’t have to pay them subscriptions and they cant dictate what we see and do, they also know that llms can essentially run on anything and it’s only a matter if time til hardware gets really good at it and it becomes very viable to run open source models at home that make theirs irrelevant.

18·3 months agoGaming works great on Linux now and often better. The only scenarios I can think of where things are majorly behind are competitive games with anti cheat that doesn’t work on Linux and anything requiring peripherals with custom software, for example SIM racing. This means that the vast majority of games work great!

Technology@lemmy.world•‘Devastating blow’: Atlassian lays off 1,600 workers ahead of AI pushEnglish
20·4 months agoAtlassian is getting thrashed in the stockmarket and they’re using AI as a get out of jail free card to conduct massive layoffs.
Its too bad that in the end they are just making forgettable tools that jira aside already have extensive competition, that actually feel built for enterprise vs the garbage atlassian is making.
If it wasn’t for the army of agile cultists who claim that work is impossible without Jira they’d probably already be a much smaller company.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your least favourite thing about the fediverse or lemmy?
3·4 months agoI agree. My politics, thoughts and feelings change over time and it makes me uncomfortable to be potentially judged for things later and not be able to delete that isn’t ideal, even if I’m the only one reading it.
What I don’t like is that so much content is spread between so many different places, this along with the complexity of it all as a new user is intimidating.
I think we’re asking a lot of non technically minded people to use the fediverse and that is hurting adoption.
Having said that something I like about it is that it’s smaller and people actually “communicate” with me here which isn’t really a thing on reddit anymore.
I actually agree with this. I would like to see something like the Indian system where they whack people being anti social as well. Spitting on the street - instant reminder that it’s wrong. Love or hate Singapore but they have low crime and a clean country and they cane for both minor and a somewhat less minor crimes.
I don’t think it’s great to jail people for petty theft etc but there should be punishment all the same and caning seems like an option.

Technology@lemmy.world•Asus and Dell announce new mini PCs for Windows 365 | Goodbye local OSEnglish
3·4 months agoThese won’t amount to much, windows 365 is expensive. Companies really only have a use case for these over dedicated hardware for specific use cases that make sense, of which there isn’t a lot vs dedicated computers.

Lmao in cyberpunk there are christian vending machines for exactly this.
