Windows 11 has been a nightmare for me. Every time I leave the file browser open my fans start up like I’m doing something insensive. Mssms freezes constantly, visual studio freezes constantly. Switching between virtual desktops? Not without waiting 30 seconds. And finally, idk if this is a dell thing or a win11 thing but the “low power mode” that activates if my battery is at or below 10 percent, despite me turning off all battery saving settings I can find, makes my computer functionally useless. Programs don’t load, I can’t close or open anything. Like the whole point of low power mode is so you have a little more time to wrap up things before you can get to a charger. There’s no point to that if you set my PC so low power that it literally can’t even run the bloated ass OS on it. I hate it so fucking much.

3·2 months agoIt’s because we’re living in a post American assimilation world and they don’t realize that happened. But my grandparents would talk about how they’d be slapped on the hands with rulers for speaking Cajun French and now it’s a dead language. This law feels like the first step to a similar cultural assimilation.
What’s crazy is in my area, most people are Cajun, the Cajuns faced so much discrimination, deportation and even an attempted genocide, and successful assimilation, Cajun French is essentially a dead language. Their Great and great great grandparents were facing discrimination for being accepting of people of color and for not speaking English. Yet due to lack of education of their own history most Cajuns don’t realize they’re perpetuation the very I justices their ancestors went through, hell, half there’s a huge population of cajuns that are POC and don’t even realize it!

There are several apps that are compiled for both Linux and windows natively, that’s what I was referring to
The monitor thing is very dependent on distro, I didn’t really have any issues at all with Linux mint or nobara
As others have said wine/proton is not an emulator and some games run even better on Linux, that being said a lot of AAA games have DRM that prevent you from running them on Linux, that would be your real argument there
Don’t like being able to share software? A ton of software on Linux is FOSS and available on windows, not all of it of course, but you could say the same about Mac
Depending on the corporation and software, you can use Linux, but yes, most places are windows shops, so that is difficult
But yeah,a computer that just “works” I concede most distros will not get you there. Nobara is definitely a bit unstable but I can deal with it because I was in IT for 6 years. Although immutable distros are close, but they definitely still take some knowhow to use, and have their limitations
Edit: misread part of the comment
