Yup, our everybody’s dear Ursula. I realize that Europe has many institutes and multiple unions, but I feel that the EU best represents Europe as a whole. And, of the multiple bodies the EU is made of, the European Commission often lays face to news and is said to hold the most “power”.

Yes, the USA is a master of making itself seem much more powerful and important than it really is, and what do news outlets love more than painting the devil onto the walls? Denmark living in the USA’s pocket doesn’t help much either.

At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if more Europeans know the presidents of China, Russia, and the USA than know the name of our own European prime minister, which would be pretty sad if actually true.

Of course it’s important to know what other countries are up to, and the EU is currently reliant on the USA for conflict handling (please make a joint European army), but unless you plan to intervene then I see no reason to fanatically follow their politics. Just tell me whether we’ll have to deal with some ancient inept dude, or another ancient inept dude who has managed to weaponize incompetence.

I’m vaguely aware that the USA is gearing up for another political tragedy, but who, living outside of the USA, actually follows that stuff? Can’t influence the outcome much either way if you can’t vote, except perhaps by spreading propaganda.

Yeah, I’ve been bamboozled by this before. Found out that both “dike” and “dyke” mean “water barrier” but also can be slurs.

I guess it depends on context and audience, though, I hope the context is clear in this case. :P

Edit: Also, “dam” doesn’t fit since it’s an island and not a river or lake. The island does have dams, but those are not nearly as important as the dikes.

The Baltic sea just had a once-in-a-century storm surge this fall. There was little danger since the baltic sea is rather well protected, but many local dikes weren’t up for the job, resulting in quite some damage (in general, the houses on my island were mostly unscathered).

Took us the better of two months to drain the water from the island, and in the meantime we had to hike along the more robust dikes to get to the harbor.

We also had to empty our lakes of saltwater to attempt and save our fire-bellied toads, as the Copenhagen Zoo is trying to preserve the species on the island.

This is the way! The razorblades last for about 4 uses (7 if stretched) so a pack easily lasts a year, and I haven’t cut myself with one yet (in contrast to those pesky plastic razors which can’t keep sharpness throughout a single session).

Never gonna give my safety razor up, one would have to wrestle it out if my cold, dead hands!

To expand a little:

While it indeed is annoying, it did mostly go as expected, as in, law makers must always be ready for companies responding to new and more restrictive laws with malicious compliance.

The vast majority of websites don’t actually follow the rules for cookie banners or implement them in as roundabout a way as possible, making them needlessly annoying as it should always be easier and at least as fast to decline than to accept.

While this all sounds like cookie banners ultimately are a failure because of the misimplementations that companies provided in response, it does function as an eye opener for the common man and stepping stone for the EU for further laws and fines in regard to citizens’ rights to privacy.

I’m pretty sure it’s more like

Junior dev: Got all the nice addons, RGB lighting, only uses dark theme, got all the stickers, works from either a café or moms basement.

VS Senior dev: Works on company standard issue hardware, barely customizes visuals (but got a script which makes a cup of coffee on the shared machine in exactly 2 minutes and 30 seconds), works in shared office, has old rolling cabinet with unknown artifacts last touched 10+ years ago.

Obviously this is an overgeneralization and not a catch-all, you might even say that it’s “programmer humor”.

When it comes to hobby we tend to ask each other to send a link to the product in advance of the gifting occasion. It takes the surprise out of the event, but you get something which you can actually use.

For other gifts, try to keep a log or notes. And yes, gift cards are also very nice.

The “language” setting would be vastly more useful if you could select a default post language, as well as apps implementing language as a choice when making a comment.

You’ll never be in doubt whether I posted something from app or web, as I actually have the possibility to specify the language when using the web interface, which otherwise is “undefined” by default.

Go to your profile settings and unselected “undefined” under your languages. Make sure that “English” is still selected.

You’ll be unable to see the majority of content, but this is the easiest method if you really don’t want to see any content from non-English speaking countries.

Why should it be enough? We already have multiple Linux communities across different instances, decentralized and with alternative modteams, should we just merge them all into one conglamorate community with a single point of failure?

Everything nowadays that attempts to give back a little autonomy or freedom to the user is called piracy.

As long as an app could theoretically be used for piracy, even if it was made to circumvent toxic behavior of users’ bought and paid for products, then it must be properly labelled as piracy and taken down.

Agreed for induction, but I’d mich rather use one or two minutes more cleaning the knobs than having to almost cook my finger on this 60-90 degree Celcius hot conventional stove’s touch surface to change the plate from step 7 to 4 for 10 FUKKEN SECONDS! OUCH!

Having to restart it 2-3 times during cooking because it got confused (pan moved slightly to the side) is also rather annoying.

Edit & tl:dr: Touch works decent on induction, just please keep it far away from any conventional stoves.

Oh right, I do actually have track, volume, and “take call” on the wheel. I think I did use them once, but it just never stuck since they felt awkward to use.

I’m more concerned about fog lights, emergency lights, and Window heating, as law usually requires you to be able to use them if conditions require it.

Same, I’ve got an Opel Corsa from 2016, so it’s pretty much brand new.

The only things in the wheel are the speed control, wipers, and default lights.

For everything else required for driving, such as fog lights, emergency lights, front and back Window heating, AC, radio, and of course the shift stick, I’ll need to remove a hand from the wheel.

Luckily for me, the Touchscreen in the middle only handles less important things like navigation and external music sources.
