I switched instances just so I could be on one that had downvotes because I passionately believe downvotes give immediate power to of self moderation to the users. However, I’m very light on downvoting. I only downvotevote stuff like the OP was talking about or if something is technically incorrect and damaging to a thread. But again I’m very light on downvoting, as I was on Reddit before. I usually ignore something that I simply don’t agree with or think is too silly, etc.

Even crazier is Apollo had this awesome feature for zooming in on pictures. You could double tap to zoom in, then double tap again to resize to fit the screen. But then you could also double tap and hold on the second tap and drag up or down to zoom in and out like you can in the Maps app. That I used all the time. Also, Apollo would let you zoom in really really close - double tapping would get you to a normal zoom level but then you could just keep pinching to zoom in quite far. Love what you’re doing, keep up the great work.

Yeah, this was bound to happen. The Internet was designed to be decentralized and then we went ahead and made social network platforms that were so popular that hundreds of thousands of users conglomerated into a centralized server (or server cluster technically), completely defeating the purpose. It took time, but this is exactly how it’s supposed to be.

Yeah, I’m basically in this boat. My OS is what brings my notifications together, and makes clear distinctions between the different apps I utilize. I don’t need one app to do everything. I use signal for sensitive business, having conversations about projects and sending credentials to coworkers. I use Teams for general work conversations. I use iMessage for nearly all other casual conversations - of those maybe 30% are SMS.

Yeah, I know. Some of those terms come from Mastodon (the Twitter alt). In Mastodon, you can boost posts (tweets) which is akin to a retweet (without quoting). And a Favorite is similar to liking a tweet, although Mastodon makes it so that you can see all your favorites in a list, which is nice.

How those operations function on a Lemmy instance, I have no idea. From what I remember Kbin was supposed to blend these together so you could use your one Kbin account to check out Lemmy communities and Mastodon posts in one spot?

OMG I love Mastodon and my instance (mas.to). Left Twitter for Mas about 8 months ago - I love following hashtags even more than people. There’s some great gems to follow though. For both Twitter, and now Reddit, I left for Fedi and just never went back. Facebook was another cold turkey quitting, no alternative for that one, that was years ago now.

It’s called blocked instances and Beehaw makes liberal use of the feature.

Beehaw is notoriously strict with their content and philosophical approach to federation. Last I checked they banned hundreds of instances. That’s not my style. I looked for a well moderated instance that left the banning to the user and kept the server up to date and running. In fact I think they still have no instances banned yet. VLemmy did make me register and wait for approval which happened that same day and it’s been a real pleasure.

I have accounts on other instances and Kbin and all instances seem to carry about the same posts when sorting by All. The fediverse requires the user to search a bit more for the community that fits them best, and that’s a good thing.

Try a few instances and platforms. Kbin is pretty cool but not really my thing, I love Mastodon and my instance (shout out to mas.to and @rodti@mas.to).
