Yeah I was curious about that. Like I can poke around in the immich directory, but the actual pictures are stored in a weird structure. Do you have any recommendations?

One of my first self hosting projects was a jellyfin server. Double check, but I think the main hardware requirements are just 4GB of RAM and enough harddrive space for your videos/files!
I really like immich too. It’s like Google photos, but self hosted. It’s super fast for uploading and backing up your photos over your local network. Immich also needs at least 4GB of RAM I think
I’m with ya there. I think a lot of the valid hate towards AI is is actually for Big Tech companies and data centers.
I support folks running less powerful locally hosted models on their own hardware, which I also do myself!
Always great with binoculars in low ~Bortle 6 or lower and a great beginner target for telescopes!
60 is such a nice highly composite number though!

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•If you want to live close to nature, don't move to the countryside. Move to water bodies or mountains instead.
2·13 days agoBut if you do get a decent amount of land in the country side like this, you can do alot of landscaping and turn it into something pretty.
I grew up surrounded by farmland, but we had wide variety of trees, grasses, and plants on our particular plot of land

3·17 days agoDon’t get me wrong, I love sci-hub. But the Sci-bot tools was super slow like took half an hour for a single repsonse , maybe they just need a bigger datacenter or smaller models

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•A corner is an ontologically parasitic feature of a table that can't exist on its own.
2·17 days agoBut can a particular element exist, without another element or elementary particle. Like I feel like you can’t have hydrogen with out a proton and electron, and you can’t have an electron without implying the existence on a proton

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•requiring smartphones to be repairable is a really bad take
11·17 days agoMaybe it doesn’t need to be a law. But think it would be cooler if phones were more repairable or modular like desktop computers
Noob here, what’s wrong with curl | sh installs?
Grok is dumb because it is one of the least efficient models out there. If you’re just gonna do pointless role-playing use a smaller model that is fine tuned for role playing

science@lemmy.world•Sci-Hub has created a new AI chatbot. Is it any good?English
5·17 days agoThe idea is cool, but yeah I tried it and it was super slow. Maybe it could be useful as like a more semantic search engine than a chat bot

10·17 days agoI mean, can anything exist entirely on its own?

21·19 days agoMaybe related, but I had a friend who had to disable secure boot to get some things to work with his Nvidia graphics card
It probably uses Retrieval Augmented Generation, which can still hallucinate, but usually does a better job for niche questions and it can even provide a source sometimes depending on how you set it up

Ooh is that a tactic for overwhelming stuff? Spaming it with large amounts of text like the Bee Movie Script?

641·21 days agoJust as long as it is local AI and optional. If I’m gonna have to connect my Ubuntu devices to some datacenter just for slop I didn’t ask for, I’m switching again

I hate when they just start talking about AI in giga watts. MAKE. AI. MORE. ENERGY. EFFICIENT.
