Tommy Caldwell was the first person to climb it, and nobody has free soloed it, and the likelihood of anyone ever doing that is basically zero.

Also the forces involved in a climbing fall are partly mitigated by the stretch of the rope, and the belayer will soften the catch by jumping as the climber falls. The length of a fall has little impact on the forces experienced by the climber or the gear in a typical climbing fall.

Yes, I tried with VLC as well. It works as intended there. Video pauses, and the PC suspends or shuts down normally.

Firefox seems to be the only thing that prevents it, and only if there’s a video loaded. Doesn’t have to be the active window, and it doesn’t matter which display it’s on. If there’s a video playing or paused, it prevents suspend and shutdown.

That’s not a fix though, it’s a hoop to jump through every time. Regardless of OS, it’s incorrect behavior.

If the games you’re looking to play are competitive multiplayer games, those usually actively fight Linux users. Games like Valorant, Apex Legends, and Fortnite are all broken on Linux due to their invasive anti-cheat software. There are exceptions to this, of course. The devs of Marvel Rivals, for example, have said that they don’t have a problem with players on Linux.

For.anything else, odds are it will work fine. You can always check protondb.com to see if, and how well, your games work under Linux.

I’ve been Linux-only for a few years now, and I haven’t had issues playing anything yet, besides maybe some minor tweaks.

Mods can be more complicated, but I don’t have much experience with that. I do believe Nexus Mods are working of a project to simplify game mods under Linux, so hopefully that works out well.

Others have already answered your questions, so I just wanted to add that the Linux community is based on sharing and cooperation, mainly though Open Source principles, but also in most other ways. From personal experience, I would say that the community is pretty much always willing to help out when you experience issues. There’s always someone willing to share some insight.
