Completely disagree. First of all there’s a difference in Reagan Era and Reagan endorsed. However it’s not just Chevron we’re talking about here. It’s the idea of dismantling the regulatory state in general. That’s much older than Chevron. That sentiment can be traced back to Phyllis Schlafly. That sentiment can be traced back to the John Birch Society. That sentiment can be traced back to the business plot.
I have no faith in them be able to pass something like this. Not when this is what the Republicans have been dreaming of for the last 50 years. But I hope they keep trying.

No it’s literally not what I said or implied. If you think Gavin Newsom is staying out of this because he’s worried about having his career torpedoed you’re nuts. I said political reasons because it’s political reasons. For his own personal political benefit. I think that should have been obvious. If Newsome wanted to run he’d be running. I doubt Biden would be in this race if Newsome was running. He would have stepped aside. If for some reason he hadn’t, the party would have pushed him aside.

It’s basically just depends if you stayed tuned. I mean I have perfect sympathy for someone who watched the first 15 or 20 minutes and then turn it off because you know damn. However the longer it went the worst Trump got and Biden kind of leveled out though never got impressive by any means.
No serious politician chose to participate. Either for their own political reasons (Newsome) or because they preferred Biden as a better and more strategic option (Sanders). It’s still a primary when you don’t like the choices. It’s disingenuous to claim otherwise.

Despite what people on Lemmy are saying there was a primary. Votes were cast and delegates are obligated to vote accordingly at least on the first ballot. Short of Biden stepping down there is no avenue to replace him at the convention.

Yeah the problem I think with the idea they can nominate someone else at the convention are that I believe the delegates are obligated under the first ballot to vote as they were voted. So Biden’s going to win the first ballot. There’s no way not to have that happen. If there were enough other candidates that the first ballad wasn’t enough to reach the threshold then yeah they could all change their votes after. That’s just not the case because nobody ran against Joe Biden. Or nobody worth even the time it would take to spell their name properly here.

I’m not complaining about it and I don’t have to perpetuate it. It’s just a fact. It’s not a scenario we can change. If you want it to be based on substance you should read position papers. Oratory has always and will always be performative. That will never change, because that’s its nature.
