1·2 days agoif you have off-site backup, that could potentially count as the two types, but probably not in the spirit of the backup.
I have two spinning disks, a SATA SSD cache, and off-site backup

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why did Thanos, with the power of all the infinity stones, never think to try doubling the amount of resources in the world?English
223·10 days agoOn doubling the resources, I think that falls into the “obvious, but wrong, answers contain the word ‘just’”.
let’s say you double the resources. without being specific, you just doubled light and the mass of the sun and the mass of the planet and killed everyone.
ok, let’s say you get more specific, drinkable water. double it. in place? there goes every pipe and reservoir on the planet.
plant nutrients? now the concentrations could be toxic for the plants and now they’re dead.
double the asteroid belts? a lot of these species are space faring, after all.
each species and planet would need a custom solution, and that takes work. In addition, the main issue isn’t the availability of resources, it’s how they’re allocated.
just doubling all the resources could end all life in the universe.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which is worse: drunk driving or illegal street racing?English
3·24 days agoas opposed to legal street racing?
i feel like including the word “illegal” is seeding the question a bit, like it’s trying to draw our attention to a particular option.
but my vote would be drunk driving (also illegal), as a lot more people are killed by drunk driving than racing

26·28 days agoIs there no good food where they live? This sounds like suburban hell turned up to 10!

I saw something where they took an old WWII vet, with psychologists and others, to a city that he had fought in that gave him PTSD nightmares for decades. He was scared to go back, but when he did, his PTSD went away because he saw how changed everything was and you couldn’t tell that the war had happened. That allowed him to recognize that the danger was gone and over.
that’s very different from revisiting a place that something bad happened just because, though. This was 40 years later in a city that was rubble when he last saw it.
