  • It also looks like a fairly easy and straight forward install process. but yeah I watched the vid yesterday and it was a weird thing.

I remember back in like '99 or 00 my Dad and I tried to install Mandrake on the family PC. We watched A LOT of “The Screen Savers” on TechTV and they were always going on and on about Linux and how great it was so we figured we’d give it a shot. Went to Babbages and had to buy a copy. yes, we bought Linux. My Dad figured he could get it going because he knew DOS well enough to navigate directories and what have you.

We totally borked it when it came to the partitioning part. wiped the XP install by mistake and then couldn’t get Mandrake to install. we THEN had to go back to the store and buy a copy of XP because the reinstall cd that came with the PC didn’t work. so it was an expensive Linux attempt.

Now we both use Linux on our machines but we both waited like 20 years before giving it another shot. My dad uses Slackware (He loves it) and I’m on NixOS.

  • it’s insane the crap governments bend over backwards for when it comes to FIFA. I live in Toronto and I swear they’ve set up more security and police for this thing than if the Prime minister was in town. There’s more security now for this than when we hosted the G7 summit. The Public Library near my place literally has a sniper nest set up on the roof right now over looking where the fan festival is. The hotel where Team Canada is staying has security and police around the block 24/7. Hell the motorcade for the team canada bus had more escorts with it than I’ve ever seen for anyone else.

No ones going to these games anywhere. We have a match tomorrow and I’ve seen more people show up for the Blue Jays games than for that match. We spent hundreds of millions on this thing annnnnd no ones here to watch it.

  • because it’s not about the kids, it’s never been about the kids. It’s about collecting/harvesting user data, IDs, and tracking said user.

Age verification for social media isn’t working. why? because people will simply just stop using it. now porn? well they figure everyone gets horny and loves porn so it’s the next best bet to continue to try and collect said data.

We all know the EASIEST solution to this issue, it’s like you set, parental controls. it’s always been the easiest solution. always. but THAT doesn’t collect a users data.

Look i’ll be honest if all these governments and companies just straight up came out and said “ok, we lied, it’s not about the kids we just want your data. that’s it. we want it so we can track it and sell it. we need the easy money.” I’d slightly respect them more for it.

Seriously how about this “you allow us to collect and sell your data and we’ll give you a tax break or a cut of the profits from selling it. we’ll make this an opt in thing” just do that. just be god damn honest.

  • honestly it may have been the laptop at the time I was trying to install it on which was a hybrid amd/nvidia. I haven’t tried it on my thinkpads so I doubt it was ventoy as I’ve updated that several times with various other distros.

but yeah for whatever reason EndeavourOS I could never get installed. that and Tumbleweed are the two distros that I could never get working.

  • Fire Force. I got god damn hooked on that show a few years ago. And I’m someone who general just watches anime films, ovas, or limited series. favourites being Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex and Second Gig, FLCL, Cowboy Bebop, etc. so generally nothing that has multiple seasons.

So Fire Force really isn’t the type of anime I’m into. I’m not huge on the goofy fan service type of stuff that takes place over multiple seasons. hell I’ve never watched One Piece. But this show for whatever reason just hooked me. I had reminders set for when new episodes would come out. I can’t quite put my finger on why I liked it but I just did. It’s fun.

Other than that I don’t know how popular it is but Psycho Pass. that one is more up my ally. I enjoyed that and the theme song is a real banger.

  • oh it’s great isn’t it? you ask it for help on some code, provides its solution, you try it and it doesn’t work so you respond with the error, it claims YOU wrote it wrong and then when yo utell it “I just copy and pasted what you provided” it says “you’re right, i’m sorry.”

Claude is to the point now where it just starts hallucinating on the first prompt. it’s 100% unreliable now when before it was like 90%. no point in using it, it’s garbage. and Claude Code is just as bad now. If you or anyone is using Claude Code to develop ANYTHING I would highly suggest you stop right now because I can guarantee you with nearly 100% certainty that whatever shit it’s writing into your stuff isn’t going to work. period.

  • Just go with CachyOS. it will allow you to install hyprland during the install process and provide you with Cachy’s dotfiles of it and everything you need right off the bat which you can then further configure yourself or just clone the omarchy dotfiles if you so wished.

EndeavourOS is fine but I always had issues installing it via ventoy (i.e. it doesn’t.) so I can’t recommend it. With endeavour you’d have to manually install hyprland, manually configure it from the get go, manually install kitty, etc etc etc. Cachy will just save you a bit of time and give you a solid base to start from for everything. Plus the CachyOS kernel is pretty good which is an added bonus. I use it on my NixOS system.

  • remember kids GIGO “Garbage In, Garbage Out”.

the general public just isn’t aware of this. they assume that anything and everything an LLM spits out is fact. Again, the LLM/AI MUST provide a solution. any solution. that solution doesn’t need to be correct or even exist but in order to retain users it will and will consistently and constantly provide a hallucinated solution.

And in most cases, without their knowledge, the user is also to blame. I can see a lawyer asking an LLM “are there any cases where such and such happened” trying to find something INCREDIBLY specific to what they need and the LLM 8 times out of 10 will say “yes! there is!” and hallucinate a case that the lawyer needs. You see it all the time if you ask Claude with assistance in trouble shooting a specific tech or code problem. “I’m having issues with this and this, can this library or app or program solve this for me?” “Yes! here’s how” and then will tell you something the library or program or whatever can’t even do but you’ve lead it to that direction and it MUST provide a positive retention-able solution.

Even using AI as it SHOULD be used is no longer good. just using it as a sort of rubber duck doesn’t help anymore because of GIGO. the training data, across ALL LLMs, is so tainted now you might as well take all the money we’re wasting on data centers and tokens and just toss it at the crazy dude outside the bus station and just ask them the same questions.
