It never really worked out well. However, it could become relevant again in a distant future when all work has been outsourced to robots. But looking at the current world I doubt that we will ever reach that point.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are the odds that we are all in a simulation?
31·4 months agoThe scary thing is you just need to simulate a single brain (yours or mine). Everything else is just loaded on the fly. Like in a game. That’s hard but probably not impossible. As soon as we are technically able to do something like this, chances are high that we, or I, live in a simulation.

Technology@lemmy.world•GitHub CEO delivers stark message to developers: Embrace AI or get out.English
21·5 months agoI am convinced AI could replace CEO’s very easily. Making decisions based on trends and lots of data is an easy use case. And if it’s the wrong decision who cares? CEO’s also don’t take and responsibility at all. AI is also a very good lair too.
dang, I just bought FP5.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your favourite less well known app/software?
2·7 months agoThe last version on the website is from 2017. I wonder what’s going on? The repo seems to be alive. I used it for years but switched recently to ShareX since Greenshot GUI can’t really handle high screen resolution
Edit: Just checked the Blog. They didn’t had time in the last years but it seems to pick up speed again now. A new version is coming.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•lemm.ee is shutting down at the end of this monthEnglish
16·7 months agoVery sad to hear but totally understandable. Unfortunately, this will make the centralization of lemmy world even worse.
How much effort is it actually to host a small instance? I am thinking about hosting one mostly for my self. Mainly because I am interested in the technology. Also my country doesn’t have one so that could be a topic too if there is some interest. But hearing this I am not so sure anymore. I can’t put many hours into it each week just to keep it running.
My company is making exactly the same mistake right now. I simply can’t understand how a European company can still make itself so dependent on Microsoft at this point. We Devs have raised the issue to our bosses, but there are still a lot of old MS fanboys around. Some people have to learn it the hard way.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What episode/season/movie do you consider as the ending in an otherwise long running franchise, and Why?
3·8 months agoS08 of Two and a Half Men, before Charlie died. It was okay after but just not the same anymore.
I have the same issue but with KDE. But in my case I think its because of the wireless mouse.

Reminds me of MattKC, a guy on YouTube who does similar stuff. He ported the .Net framework to win95. very interesting videos, if think this challenge would be exactly his type.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Would you have a drink at lunch and then go back to work?
18·10 months agoSwitzerland, IT
Depends on the team. It’s not that uncommon in some occasions, for example on a friday, to have a beer when eating lunch in a restaurant.
Very common is the “Apero”-culture. Small festivities after work to celebrate something. Snacks, beer and wine are part of it. Sometimes this can also be during the day and people will continue to work after.

I don’t think so. Sheep don’t smell like dogs.
