My parents legitimately believe ivermectin is a cure all and are stockpiling it. They take it for just about anything. They also believe plenty of other wacky things like viruses don’t exist and cancer is just a fungal infection.
My dad last year nearly lost his foot after it got infected. They let it fester for months and only treated it with like essential oils or some other pseudoscience. He eventually had to go to the emergency room and stay at the hospital and receive antibiotics. 🙄

Autism@lemmy.world•You ever go into withdrawals because you forgot to drink caffeine?English
7·19 days agoI’ve been drinking coffee everyday since I was at least 12. I’ll get a headache in the afternoon if I don’t have it in the morning.
Except that I once went a week unknowingly drinking decaf coffee and didn’t experience withdrawal, so maybe there’s something psychological at play?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you think of homeschooling?English
15·22 days agoI was homeschooled k-12 because my parents didn’t want me to learn about evolution and “communism”. I didn’t have any close friends ever growing up because there was just no opportunity for that. I didn’t have extended participation with other kids on a daily basis like I would’ve gotten if I was in a real school. At best I had some playtime outside of school hours with a few of my neighbors and there was things like Boy Scouts and tennis club. But it wasn’t enough. It really stunted the development of my social skills. Throughout my 20s I was I having to learn a lot about how to make and maintain friendships and just like socialize and talk to people and date and such, things that most people would’ve done in their tweens and teens.
I guess one nice perk was I never really had to deal with bullying as a kid? But then when I encountered bullies as an adult (terrible roommates, colleagues, coworkers etc) I didn’t have the skills to deal with them well.
I’m in my mid 30s now, and I still struggle with socializing but I’m better at it. I’ve been in a relationship for 4 years and I’m relatively content with my life at least.
What about pants?

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Does anyone else feel like websites nowadays feels very broken compared to apps? Like you try to do transactions on the mobile site (eg: ordering food), and payments mysteriously declines...English
4·1 month agoClothing sites nearly always make my phone (iPhone 13) run hot after a few minutes of browsing. Often the phone as a whole will start to get really slow (thermal throttling?) and I have to force quit the browser and maybe even restart iOS.
There’s this little thing called choice paralysis.

1·1 month agoFor me I’ll prefer shorts if the temps are at least somewhere in the mid 60s Fahrenheit. I run hotter than most however and prefer colder temps.

9·2 months agoThankskilling (2008). Low budget horror movie about a talking turkey (a puppet) who murders college students. It’s one of the most ridiculous and hilarious movies I’ve seen.

2·2 months agoI think most people go there now to order sugary drinks. I have to be extra clear I don’t want any sugar or syrups. They put sugar in their iced coffee by default now.
Recently I ordered an iced black tea. I said no sugar and the guy then asks “do you want lemonade with that?” 😐

Right now I use Vivaldi on my work computer. For my personal devices (MacBook, iPhone, two iPads), I’ve been mainly using Kagi’s Orion browser for about a year. It’s a WebKit browser but even on iOS it can run (some) Chrome/Firefox extensions, which I think is pretty neat. I also dabble with iCab. It’s a very eccentric browser with an interesting history that goes back to the 90s.
I tried a standing desk and it made my back pain a lot worse.

Mine does. It’s a little cup that screws on. Some varieties allow you to screw on your average disposable plastic water bottle.
