But would anybody be bothered by it, if there’s no interaction there? Boomers destroyed Facebook for younger audiences, as all of a sudden parents would join in on conversations with your friends in the comments under a photo. You would link an article about a political issue and your reactionary uncle would proceed to call everyone who reads it a damn commy that needs to go to the army to learn some real life.
In a way it is a bit sad though. It gives a more rigid feeling to things. “about quarter past” would usually be something between :10 and :20. There is room for interpretation and time feels more available with less demanded precision.
It is not a new story though. A family member argued about a traffic accident, that the description provided by the other side is physically impossible. The judge replied, that physics would not count for humans.
A lot of people who study law do so, because they are terrible at sciences.
I definetely don’t trust someone who claims to be super excited to do accounting for a company that sells something like actuators for windshield wipers.
We make actuators for windshield wipers because someone gotta do it. We are good at it and we make good money with it. But anyone claiming this is their greatest dream in life is either lying or a weirdo in the dangerous kind of way. So give me someone that cuts the crap, shows up to work on time, works disciplined and dilligently and then clocks out on time to go home and enjoy his hobbies and social relationships. Because that is someone that can work 20 years and not burn down half the company, when inevitably burning out over the fact that actuators for windshield wipers are in fact not the most exciting thing in the world.
As always to state the obvious:
The commute time is time spent for work, but having no productivity. A one hour commute on a 40 hour week means 20% of time wasted unproductively. The employee needs to calculate the commute in his salary options, even if the company isn’t directly paying for it.
So a rational company would only reject remote work, if the on site productivity is so much higher than the remote productivity, that it offsets the commute loss. For the shop floor that is a no brainer. For office work it is indicative of terrible management.
Because some of these actions might qualify as criminal offenses and if Discord had knowledge about it or even supported it, they’d be complicit.
Result of gender stereotypes affecting the behaviour of female and male children, so male children grow up to be more encouraged to learn about technology and engage in risk taking behaviour.
Also inclination to risk taking behaviour is much higher in biological men than biological women, which would also give a potential reason why this advertisment works on women but not on men.
As always these attributions only represent the average of the women and men populations as a whole. Ofc. there is risk averse men and tech savvy women.
i thought he was munching it into shape so it would fit the floppy drive.
I wouldn’t consider this a tragedy of the commons situation. People entrusted reddit to remain a somewhat acceptable company, and reddit betrayed that trust.
People didn’t purge their comments to remove this information from the public, but they purged it from reddit making money off limiting the access to this information.
For the right to be forgotten, this only applies to personal information. E.g. information that can be associated with information, that could be used to identify you.
Since you usually have an email for signup, that would make the data fall under personal information. But reddit could just delete the email adress and your user name and show something like:
[deleted]
When does the Narwhal bacon?
And well, it is pretty difficult to find out if, when and where there is backups that still contain your information and could be given to the AI model trainers too. To find these things out, we’d need a precedence case that makes a data protection agency investigate reddit throughouly.
my layman understanding would be, that they include it in the TOS and your only option would be to leave the platform and demand them to delete all your content, which they may or may not do. E.g. they could just train the AI on an older backup. Good luck getting your rights recognized and abided by.
Maybe include the second part of that paragraph i wrote:
That is why you should refrain from judgement over a human in his entirety. You can and sometimes should judge individual acts that you have witnessed or are proven.
But given the example of Hitler. Why is it important to consider the person in his entirety as evil? Aren’t the intention and act of genocide by themselves an evil that needs to be condemmend and prevented?
I find Hitler and Fascism are great examples, because the story of the fascists being evil people is a form of “othering”. They are the evil people, but we are not the evil people. This can all to easily lead to ignorance to how easily Fascism can spread and infect any people. And we see it in the way Germans wiggled themselves out of responsibility for their crimes after WW2.
To quote the Ausschwitz survivor Karl Stojka:
„Und das haben Menschen gemacht, so wie du, du und ich. Diese Leute kamen nicht von einem anderen Planeten. […] Es waren Menschen, so wie wir. Und nicht Hitler hat mich verhaftet, nicht Göring, nicht Goebbels. Der Greißler, der Hausmeister, der Schneider, der Schuster, der Bäckermeister, die haben auf einmal eine Uniform gekriegt, eine Hakenkreuzbinde, und da waren sie die Herrenrasse…“
And this was done by people like you and me. These people were not froma different planet. it was people like us. Not Hitler inprisoned me, not Goering, not Goebbels. [It was] the storekeeper, the house caretaker, the tailor, the cobbler, the baker. They suddenly received an uniform, a swastika armband and there they were the master race…
Or to say it with a caricature In Nuremberg and other places - “but he had ordered me to it”:
The IP helped the Internet to establish. But once established we see trends to try to limit the very technology into propriety. Think of the Facebook internet access schemes that tried to make everything go through facebook. Think of the attempts to make priviledged and throttled websites based on what the ISP likes…
When Podcasts were new, the open standard was embraced, but now we see attempts to make them exclusive too. Just that they didn’t prevail yet.
The argument is that you cannot really know. You don’t know everything a person did. You don’t know the motivations with which they act. You cannot look into their heart.
That is why you should refrain from judgement over a human in his entirety. You can and sometimes should judge individual acts that you have witnessed or are proven.
This is explicit the Bible i.e. Matthew 7:1 and the Qur’an i.e. 1:4. I don’t know how it is written in the Torah, but generally in the abrahamic religions the final judgement is reserved to Allah, as He is the only one to truly know a human.
But also outside religion, why is it that anyone should rise to judgement of whether someone is “good” or “bad” in face of serious illness or injury? Saying someone is good so he doesn’t deserve cancer implies that there is people who deserve cancer.
I know the statement is usally meant to signal compassion. The compassion should be unconditional though, as it is a fellow human that is suffering.
Legislators could just offer a very easy solution. They could simply mandate copyright holders to offer the copyright to all interested parties at a fair price. If content ist held back or only exclusively distributed through one party it should go public domain, as the holder of the rights clearly does not intend to profit in a legitimate way from.
The intend of copyright is to make sure, that the holder of the right can get a fair compensation. It is not the intend that his work is abused to manipulate the markets.
All we can do is 50k and some fruits in the office.
in this process it is just normal to get runtime errors. Your expectation is too high imo.
So which is then? You want a one off script to just quickly crunch some numbers on a problem you still need to understand? Because that is where it is perfectly normal to get some errors and doodle around. That is the entire point of it.
Or you have a concise concept of what you are going to do, and how and why? Because that is what you do, when you program more than a “one off”.
Either you go to the store with a shopping list and you work through that list or you go browsing and see what comes up. But don’t expect to be as fast and have everything you needed, when you dont write your shopping list at home.
Like many people with the reddit exodus.
But i also got quite annoyed with the main German communities shifting more and more to the right and the moderators of the largest german subreddit to tolerate and enable transphobic and racist discussions, e.g. when there was some tabloid “news” on either topic shared.
I dont know how much of it was because the communities were more and more targeted by organized far right propaganda and how much was the moderators of the /r/de subreddit sharing such viewpoints.
Those trends already happened for some years, getting particularly worse with covid.
