  • Of course, because they don’t care that they’re gonna do fascism, that’s perfectly okay with those people. They think they’re gonna be the ones on top. I mean, not TOP top, but what’s that saying? “Tell the poorest white man that he’s still better than a black dude and he’ll give you his shirt” or something to that effect. They just wanna be special special boys and have some free punching bags walking around…and another punching bag married to them.

Wait til half of them find out that they, their friends, and/or their family will eventually be the " bad other " under fascism. They won’t be so smug anymore. And that doesn’t even feel satisfying to say cuz I’m just picturing all the dead and beaten people who will go before they get to eating their own. Bottom line is they’re okay with things getting ugly as long as they’re the ones making it ugly.

“If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.”

I looked it up cuz it was bothering me. I still like my version tho, so it stays, lol.

  • Did I say he wasn’t? The fact that he’s being targeted alone is the issue I have, there’s 0 articles posted here talking about any other judge

This is the comment I had a problem with, not yours. Thomas isn’t being “targeted” , he’s having huge scandals break. He isn’t being targeted alone the scandals of his peers have broken years ago (the ones that have broken thus far anyway, I’m sure there’s more we don’t know about yet). And those scandals were widely discussed at the time they broke.

Why would there be current articles about the other justices when we don’t have current scandals for them? That’s why I say the dude (not you, you’re good) was trying to change the topic.

  • … right. Because republicans control Texas and the grid. A grid that already killed people a couple years ago. A grid that people aren’t convinced the republican leadership has fixed. A grid that’s being heavily used under this heatwave. That just makes sense to me.

What else would you expect in the comments? I expect talk about climate change, the grid, and how republicans have fucked up both of those things. I don’t expect people to be saying, “Sure is a scorcher today!”, Or casual chats about lemonade recipes. Those days are gone.

  • Texans are worried because of the previous track record: The winter storm that froze people to death because the supply couldn’t keep up with demand. Our grid was incredibly close to a whole shit down, which would have killed even more people. All of which happened because the people in charge of such things didn’t prepare for a winter storm like that despite being warned that it was necessary like a decade ago.

And heat is no joke. So yeah, we worry. We have kids, elderly family and friends, pets, and healthy adults are also not immune. When demand skyrockets we get worried because people have already died and we don’t want to see that happen again. We’re also very aware of how often we’re told things are “fixed” when nothing has actually been done. So we cross our fingers, and we sweat, and we hope the grid doesn’t shut down and kill us. Sorry our worrying and upvoting of the topic bothers you.
