I have been taking shrooms for over a decade now and I think I’m finally out of movies to watch, so I was hoping to crowd source some recommendations here and maybe even throw together a film list for fellow Lemmy psychonauts.

I tend to focus on comedies - I’ve seen all Mel Brooks films (except Silent Movie), Monty Python, all things MST3K/Elvira/Svenghoulie. The classics like Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, Dazed & Confused, as well as, “good” B movies/flops like Tank Girl.

That being said, I’ve seen a ton of cerebral films too, along the lines of Waking Life for example.

All I can think of to watch right now is Rango, History of the world part 2 and Freakazoid season 2…these are mostly choices out of desperation at this point, ha (except Rango). Maybe Animaniacs (new & old)? Cloud Atlas?

So, if you have any obscure comedy recommendations, cerebral films, documentaries, let em rip! (To paraphrase Leslie Nielsen). I’ll compile a master list here after a month (?) of postings.

Thanks!

One time, He Got Game by Spike Lee got me mesmerized. 20 years later I can still vividly remember the green lights dancing all over the characters’ faces.

The main movie I’ve got queued up for the next trip is Sunshine by Danny Boyle. The images of the sun in that movie are awe-inspiring in any state, so I have good hopes.

She’s all that, Barton funk, Airplane!, Joe vs the Volcano, Death Becomes Her, Empire Records, Office Space, the Sandlot, my Cousin Vinny, Dumb and Dumber, Friday, Election, Groundhog Day, The Mask, Waiting for Guffman, Happy Gilmore, Cool Runnings.

Start with those. If you want something that will make you wonder what the fuck you just watched try Waking Life.

It depends on your preferences I guess, but I would consider all of those good for when smoking weed but not great for shrooms. When on mushrooms I prefer animated or fantasy movies, nothing thats going to remind me of modern society. Recently we watched Pikachu detective and that was good, mario movie was great. Luca was really good and fun.

Midnight gospel is a fucking amazing show somewhat reminiscent of waking life, it takes a sort of podcast form where the main character travels between different worlds/dimensions and has philosophical conversations with the beings he encounters, with surreal and absurd visuals and accompanying situations.

Oh also dungeons and dragons was incredible and exciting on mushrooms.

I had a slate of other choices but went with comedy movies and movies that made me laugh at parts because OP asked for funny.

Yeah it seems like it was just the sort of thing OP wanted too, I just wanted to give a different perspective on it. I personally don’t find comedies all that funny on shrooms, to me it seems like everyone is overactive and being annoying usually, but I’m glad he got a good recommendation out of it :).

Went with Joe vs the volcano, loved it. Perfect mix of cerebral and comedy, his company logo and volcano path being the same, chefs kiss there!

Perfect! The luggage salesman is amazing too. Something about his intensity and calm while selling a steamer trunk sticks with you. It’s also the best Meg Ryan/Tom Hanks movie.

Glad one of those worked for you!

May you live for a thousand years, sir. (Or something similar) haha

          :)

The movie struck a lot of chords with stuff going on in my personal life too. Definitely not what I was expecting, caused a lot of thinking.

I am a huge fan of surrealism, I’ve been meaning to watch this for years…under the proper circumstance. Definitely starting with this.

I watched across the spider verse on shrooms recently. Was fucking amazing the visuals in that movie are so cool when you aren’t high . I know thats not exactly what you where asking but that’s what I would recommend.

If anyone has any suggestions, please keep them coming.

I think I am going for a Ralph Bakshi marathon next.

A lot of Satoshi Kon’s (RIP) works, like Paprika, would be great too. I would just avoid Paranoia Agent, since it offers social commentary on some very dark topics that could spiral into a bad trip.

I tend to go for movies that are more visually and audio interesting. So Blade Runner is a lot of fun. And the opening interrogation scene is low key hilarious.
