The notion that individual Justices can decide for themselves whether their own conduct violates the Constitution, federal law, or the Court’s Code of Conduct is untenable in our Republic and clearly violates the fundamental and original principle of due process that “no man can be a judge in his own case.”

I’m not naive enough to think the Supreme Court will willingly agree to oversight, but I’m glad they’re getting called out for their shit. Hopefully it will lead to a change in the long-term.

Fuck, I hope so - but I’m not optimistic. When Obama won in 2008 along with the House and a super majority in the Senate, I thought “finally, the death of the Republican party. Surely they’ll be forced to move to the left to have any chance of winning another election.”

Instead they doubled down, created the TEA Party, and eventually got is to where we are today.

Yeah this is what scares me about the MAGA nut jobs. Fox News and Trump have created a monster that they can try to steer but don’t fully control. When Fox said that Trump lost the election, the MAGAts fled to News Max and OANN. When Trump even hinted that people should get vaccinated, he got booed and immediately walked it back.

It’s the same reason that we now face a government shutdown every few months. They’ve driven their base so far to the right that they now have no choice but to appease that base or be eaten alive. Once Trump’s McDonald’s encrusted arteries eventually give out, this madness isn’t going to just die with him.

Yeah listening to him speak, you’d think he was pro-choice and thought Obamacare was the bee-knees.

There’s gotta be at least a few Republican men that tell their wives, “remember, vote all red down the ballot” resulting in a few votes for him.

I was a consultant for most of my career until recently where I switched to a salary employee.

This is seriously insane to me. I start getting paid as soon as my ass hits my chair. And when I was working in an office, it was as soon as my foot went in the door.

I can’t imagine interacting with the public on behalf of a company without being paid for it. Wtf.

Yeah if you look at that GitHub link in the other comment, it mentions that a Lemmy variable was renamed in the latest release. So there’s nothing that we, as users, can do. It needs a code change.

Yeah I had a Facebook friend say “This will be unpopular, but I disagree with the two tax breaks being proposed by both candidates.”

It had me scratching my head. I’ve yet to hear Trump propose an actual policy about tax breaks. I heard him ramble about shit and then the media sane-washes it into a policy.

For example, not too long ago Trump said to some CEOs that he’d like to get the corporate tax rate to 20% because it sounded like a “nice, round number”. That is an absolutely insane way to set a tax rate.

But the media took it and ran with it and you saw headlines all over the place about Trump’s super serious tax policy. Saying “20% sounds nice” isn’t a fucking policy!! There was no thought or planning to see the impact of such a rate. Just “yeah that sounds nice”. Fuck this guy and people that cover up for his ramblings.

I’m glad they’re doing it. This sane-washing shit drives me crazy. You constantly see headlines saying things like “Trump proposes new policy making guaranteeing sunshine and rainbows for everyone” when in reality, a Trump supporter asked him about lowering food prices and he went in a 15 minute rant that included him saying “and I am the best at sunshine, the sunshine loves me… and don’t even get me started at the rainbows… my communist opponent hates rainbows but not me, the rainbows said ‘sir, you are the best at sunshine and rainbows, more than anyone has ever seen’.”
