Alright, I just want to clarify that I’ve never modded a Lemmy community before. I just have the mantra of “if nobody’s doing the right thing, do it yourself”. I was also motivated by the decision from u/spez to let an unknown AI company use Reddit’s imagery. If you know how to moderate well, please let me know. Also, feel free to discuss ways to attack AI development, and if you have evidence of AIBros being cruel and remorseless, make sure to save the evidence for people “on the fence”. Remember, we don’t know if AI is unstoppable. AI uses up loads of energy to be powered, and tons of circuitry. There may very well be an end to this cruelty, and it’s up to us to begin that end.

I have no idea how to “moderate well”, but from what I’m seeing in this sub, either what you’re doing is good enough, or what you’re not doing is also good enough.

Keep up the good work and carry on.

Thanks for doing this, I thought I was going insane to have even Lemmy flooded with oh so much slop.

I could do with some help - my latest little crusade is to call out AI slop on facebook and youtube whenever I encounter it, and explain to the poster and commenters why I unfollow anyone who uses AI generated images or text, and why others should do so as well. This is mostly geared towards people who post educational stuff with positive intention but have no idea that using AI is awful and wrong.

To do this I want to use an easily recognizable image (hand drawn of course), but I’ve realized that many people simply don’t understand at all why AI is evil. I’d also need a link to some article or other information that explains it in really simple terms for non-tech people - if any of you good people happen to know of any material I could use please post a link.

Oh, and I’ve also just found out that Canva, a very popular poster generator, seems to be heavily relying on AI and people have absolutely no idea and tell me “But why, I wasn’t using AI, I’m using Canva” when I complain about their slop images.

I’m not trying to be an ass, but the genie is out of the bottle. You’d have as much luck campaigning to shut down the internet in the 90’s.

Trust me on this one… Put your energy toward navigating a world -with- AI. As long as money is relevant, those who have it will dictate the course of civilization, and there is far too much money behind AI.

Except the 90’s internet was not this demented positive feedback loop of depravity, misinformation and ecological catastrophe. “Oh but people always lied on the internet” To that I say, it has never been this easy to create hundreds of thousands of bots that sound like the people you know, taking advantage of your trust.

And if we stop AI domestically, other countries are just going to get ahead, putting us at a huge disadvantage globally.

Ah yes, because we knows that if everyone does it and a lot of money is invested in it an act clearly known to be wrong will suddenly become right; like systematically hoarding labor as content and than reselling it on their behalf without having to get their consent or paying them.

Nothing wrong with AI itself. Intellectual property and copyright are what props up capitalism, anything that undermines it in a way that democratizes it is progressive

IP laws were a progressive idea. Capitalism has perverted and twisted it into something else like it does with everything it touches.

thank you. this is the correct answer. if you hide from technology, it will find you eventually and you’ll be completely unprepared for how to deal with it and it will be in the hands of the wrong people.

i’m an artist. i use AI artwork IN my art. i also use photoshop. i don’t see a difference between the two things in the big picture.
