What the hell is happening in Auckland?

    A reasonable person would have assumed that the bedroom would be occupied, and that their actions would have a very high chance of causing death - would this not count as an attempted murder? Whatever the charge, this is a prime example of a crime that should result in preventative detention. Clearly this person is fucked up, and we should absolutely be trying to help them deal with their issues, but they cannot be allowed to be out unsupervised among the general public when there is even the slightest chance they might do something so dangerous again

      Quite agree, I would have thought that attempted murder charges would be reasonable here, and yes something like this should result in preventative detention until it is proven that the offender no longer poses a risk, which may not be easy, and should not be
